For Adult cats, feed 1 can per 6 - 8 lbs. of body weight per day.
Kittens require up to 2 and a half times this amount. For pregnant and lactating females, allow free access to food. Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion.
If you are currently free-feeding a kibble, the first step is to feed your cat at meal times. Put the kibble down for a 20-30 minute time frame for a few days to help your cat recognize that this is feeding time. Yes, your cat will be hungry at these mealtimes if they have been used to grazing all day long, but this step will help in the transition.
Once these meal times are established, then try introducing canned food. Your cat will either like it and your transition took no time at all, or you may have to keep trying to entice the cat. If your cat will not eat the canned food you have offered, try putting some kibble on the top to entice the cat. If that doesn’t work, feed kibble and try a different protein at the next mealtime. It may take a while – a few day or a few weeks – for your cat to realize that this is food, but remember that you are doing it to better your cats health.

I have been feeding my cats Hound & Gato for years, I was excited to find a clean company that supported my ideals. I was so sad when they stopped manufacturing the Rabbit. I stuck with them through their huge cost increases. I am fed up with the quality decrease especially in the gamebird. It use to be a pate and now it is super liquidy and my cats hate to eat it. I am on the fence about continuing the Duck and Lamb formulas as they are so expensive, however I will no longer buy this food.
The only wet food I can find with clean ingredients, no species inappropriate nonsense added. When I started feeding this my cats weren’t interested. I put some on my finger and then on their mouth so they had to try it, which worked for 2 straight away. The 2 picky ones needed a couple days to decide it was okay. We’ve been feeding this for a year now and it’s the BEST. Their coats are better, their poo doesn’t stink, and best of all - it’s appropriate for all the health issues. One has pancreatitis that needs no added carbs. Basically a diabetes diet but the prescription diets are so full of horrible ingredients it’s appalling. One has megacolon that can flare up with lesser quality foods. Add that to my budget and finding food is HARD. This food is a miracle and I don’t know what I’d do without it!
One of the foods I usually order has been out of stock for a long time and when comparing ingredients I thought this Hound & Gatos brand would be a good replacement. The cats didn't think so, and I guess we'll be waiting until Essence Gamefowl comes back in stock. I'd recommend the brand because it really looks and smells great...my two just won't eat it.
Overall I'm pleased with most of the pate flavors offered by H&G though this flavor seems much wetter in consistency. Nevertheless both my cats will eat it without any issues.
According to the nutrition info labeling, this cat food looks great; very nutritious, with practically no undesirable additives. Even the texture appears reasonably palatable for felines. However, at least as far as the Gamebird Poultry formula goes, my 12 y/o boy would not even go near it. I'm very aware that senior cats pose a big challenge when it comes to finding healthy food that they'll actually eat, so your experience may vary. Hopefully the local ASAP Cats will find a resident that enjoys it.
Both of my cats love these treats! I used the treats to train them to come in from the patio when called at night. They learned very quickly since they were very motivated to earn these crunchy little snacks.
This is supposed to be one of the more kidney safe foods for cats. Unfortunately, it made my cat with CKD barf on the first try. Usually, it takes about 3 feedings before that happens. I really don't care for the texture either. It is very crumbly and loose which makes it difficult to portion out for 3 cats. The 2 non-CKD cats like it though. That is not saying much since one tries to eat aluminum cans and bags of flour.
While I really like the wholesome ingredients, my three male cats (one of whom is the least picky kitty ever) seem only so so about this particular flavor. They do all like the Pork Flavor. Go figure...they are cats after all.
I have been studying wet & dry cat food now for probably 4 years. I have learned so much about ingredients. I have learned you must read all ingredients for each recipe do not assume it will be the same for another if it’s from the same company. With Hound & Gatos I will feed my cats the Game-bird, Turkey, Chicken, & the Duck formulas, the others have ingredients I say away from. Such as synthetic phosphates, or vitamin K3, this company is good, they do not add any natural flavors, because we don’t really know what that is, could be animal digest. My cats love these 4 flavors, I am happily with the ingredients.
I was excited for my cats to try this food, it being my first time using this brand and the ingredients seeming very promising. Texture is nice, moisture content is nice, but my chubby boy who eats just about everything and has enjoyed other poultry based foods will not touch this food. On to the next.
