Hi there are the merrick cans BPA free?
Answer by ChewyDec 27, 2017
Merrick doesn't use any BPA in their cans. They are tin coated steel (inside and outside) with an organic coating over the tin on the inside of the can.

is this a pate? or is it slices of chicken or chunks of chicken?
Answer by ChewyAug 30, 2017
The texture of this formula is pate.

Do you offer Merick grain-free chicken in the smaller (2.8 ounce) cans? My cat won't eat the food after the can has been open for more than a day.
Answer by ChewyFeb 13, 2018
At this time this formula is only available in a 5 ounce can.

In this description the cans say food is approved for "all life stages" but on the cans I received when I ordered this food it reads "adult". My cat is still a kitten, so I confused: is it only for adults, or is it for all life stages, including kittens?
Answer by ChewyJan 12, 2021
This recipe is formulated to meet the nutritional levels for All Life Stages, including kittens.

A No-Go for my boy....

My cat had been eating the duck formula and I think he was tired of it or something changed in the food so he stopped eating it well. I supplement with dry food. When I gave him the chicken flavor, he absolutely loved it and I thought my prayers were answered, but unfortunately he had an allergic reaction to something in the chicken formula. His ears became broken out in a rash and he was scratching constantly. Oddly he had eaten chicken cat food and chicken I have cooked myself in the past with no reaction. I don't know if it has another ingredient that is not chicken in it that caused his problems or not, but I have to find another food.

so far, so good

I was giving my cats Royal Canin PD pate. Last year one of my girls died and I almost lost the other one. I switched foods. This pate is lumpier. I add water to thin it out so it's easy for my girl to eat and have to do a bit of smashing to get it down to where I need it. She has tolerated it well though. One big reason I went this food is that there is NO carrageenan in it. Carrageenan is a food grade red algae that is now added to many foods, including human food. It acts as a thickener and helps as an emulsifier. There is some question as to it whether it causes inflammation. Since it has no nutritional value really, especially for cats and could cause inflammation, I don't want anything that has it in there. I would certainly give this food a try for your pet.

So thankful!

My cat ended up having an aversion to the prescribed food he was on and we went through several different brands of wet food, many of which upset his stomach. We wanted a low protein wet food as well and found this! My cat loves it, good ingredients, low protein, only 1% more than the prescribed food which is easier on my 17y/o kitty's kidneys. So greatful to find this after a long struggle and my cat is gaining weight. Highly recommended!

Not even a contender :-(

Sadly, my dear cat said a big No! I give her 3 different choices at each meal as she's almost 20 years old and only 5 lbs. For whatever reason, this one was ignored. I just keep trying anything that sounds yummy, so Chewy is great for that; many choices.

My old nan cats -approve

Used to by Merrick years ago but stopped because the boys stopped eating it. Decided to by the LI Chicken. It’s a hit. They clean their bowls and come back looking for more. Thank you!!

recipe changed

I bought 2 packs, 48 cans. It’s too watery, not like the old ones which had dense pate textures. Cat refused to eat. What a waste of money.

Cats like it.

Don't need a LID but tried it for a change. All cats not on raw like it. Gave four stars because the consistency of Merricks pates can change case to case.

Wow...cat loved this.

I thought my cat was going to knock me over to get at this food. I popped the top and when he got a wiff of the contents he started screaming his fool head off. In the time it took me to walk 14 feet across the room he was clawing at me to get it in his dish. To say he devoured this food is an understatement. He's usually a nibbler. Not with this food. He woofed it down like a dog!

Food has changed

My cats only eat Merrick, Chicken pate and Chicken limited ingredient, because it is what they have loved for years. However they won't eat some cans now, especially the recent case of limited ingredient chicken. Neither one of them (always very hungry and good eaters) would touch the stuff. Something has changed in this formula or the entire case was spoiled. I noticed from the prior reviews this has happened to other customers. Now I have an entire case they won't eat. Cats aren't happy and neither am I.

Poor quality

Ever since it came back in stock, poor quality. Too thick, cat can't eat it. And price continues to increase and quality decrease. Merrick has now lost me as customer for all of our pets.
