Questions & Answers

17 Customer Questions

I have four or five of these and love them. I’m needing to take one apart to transport it and I got the bottom board off but which direction do the two pieces of the tower part turn? It doesn’t seem to be normal where turn right and it’s tighter, turn left and it’s looser.

Answer by IndygusJul 23, 2023
I just did this, but if it's tight get a friend and both of you put on work gloves. With someone holding the bottom cylinder, turn the upper cylinder counter-clockwise. Our cats love to attack this post.

What kind of material is the top made of? Is it a sturdy wood? Could I screw a piece of wood into the top to make a perch/platform?

Answer by ChewyApr 19, 2019
The base and post is made of wood which is covered in faux fur or sisal rope, to make this a very durable and stable scratching post. While it is not designed with a perch, we have had customer reports of making alterations.

Can I get replacement post sections for this ?

Answer by ChewyJun 18, 2018
There are no replacement parts for this scratching post at this time.

What are the base measurements in inches?

Answer by ChewyFeb 11, 2019
The base of this post measures 19 x 19 inches.

I have a cat who likes to run, jump and cling to the top of the doorway frames. I bought this to give her an alternative. She LOVES it so much that I bought a second one and used part of the second one to make the first one have three sections instead of two. She has stopped clinging to the door frames and now attacks this post. Does it shake a little? Yes but even with her 11 pounds of chaos it is stable enough that I’m not concerned about it tipping over. Highly recommend!

Reason 4 stars instead of 5 is INABILITY to switch top section with the bottom. We’ve used these posts for least 10 years & currently have 6 in use in house & barn with 20 cats using Paws down best pole posts. ONLY reason didn’t receive 5 stars is inability to switch top section with lower section when cats have destroyed lower section leaving plenty of life in the top section I have climate change , conservation hammered into me daily, yet nothing done to make this product fully useful. Top remains functional while bottom is down to the cardboard. Baseplate is in excellent condition yet it gets tossed too. Midwest could sell replacement parts-bottom section only, top & bottom, Sisal Kit to rewrap the post. It’s such a waste to throw out the base, & the top when still functioning We’ve had over 35 cats love these posts. Paws down the best.

My cat is only 16months old and was not able to stretch out when using his previous post so we bought one of these 41 in posts. He enjoyed it so much we bought 2 more to place in other areas. It allows him to fully stretch out when he goes to scratch. I would recommend these for larger cats. Thanks

This is a Nice Tall, Sturdy Scratching Post

I had one of these scratching posts for 6 years. Then it started to kinda get messy and I just bought a new one. The same one as before. It's perfect for my cat

I had one of these scratching posts for 6 years. Then it started to kinda get messy and I just bought a new one. The same one as before. It's perfect for my cat to stretch all the way. It's tall and sturdy. My cat loves it and literally never scratches my furniture because he loves this scratching post so much.

Top 1000 Contibutor

this thing is huge

The scratching post is fairly well made...a couple of staples to pound in but otherwise fine. It is really big! The cats are using it after I rubbed some catnip

The scratching post is fairly well made...a couple of staples to pound in but otherwise fine. It is really big! The cats are using it after I rubbed some catnip on it. The base makes it very sturdy. I might be brave enough to recover my chair now which has been scratched horribly by a previous cat. It was easy to put together with some help from another person to hold it in place. I'm pretty sure this is going to last a long time.

Odin is a long cat and needed a tall and large scratching post to really stretch his spine while scratching his nails off. He had begun scratching on stairs to reach that length he needed but now he has the right equipment! He can make a full body stretch then run up and sit on top like an owl on a fence post.
