My male cat does not drink water. He has inflammation of the gums so, I have to see a vet for bi-annual dental cleanings. In between cleanings, this product is a lifesaver. It eliminates his bad breath. I spray his mouth twice a day before brushing his teeth with Oratene's kitty toothpaste. I also use Green Tea which it is NOT enough to get rid of bad breath alone...I need to combine it with Oratene's Breath freshner. (The Green Tea does reduce inflammation)
It has a bitter taste
on Jul 19, 2020
The Oratene dental gel and Oratene water additive never had this bitter taste. (Yes, I tasted it myself, as I almost always do with any medicine I give my animals). I feel uncomfortable giving it to my cats. I don’t see any ingredients listed that should have a bitter taste. Oratene customer service wasn’t very helpful in that they couldn’t tell me, nor did they seem interested in figuring out, whether this was normal for this product or if something was wrong with this batch. Lot #190501, exp. 05/2022.
As always, Chewy was responsive with an immediate offer of a refund.
Thought this was additive

Bought this by mistake, I usually buy the additive for my cats water and did not realize this would be a breath freshener spray. But regardless, i gave it a shot. My cat was NOT a fan of having liquid sprayed into his mouth. So we've agreed never to do that again.
Not Sure Yet

I buy this same product from my vet, but pay more money. So I decided to try it from Chewy. Bottle is identical but it seems like a different product. This one 'foams' when you add water, the one from my vet didn't. So I am undecided. I can't really say "at this time" that I like it. I will have to use it for a while and see.
MY CAT SEEMS OK WITH THE ADDITION TO WATER

He has been on this for at least 6 months. I notice his teeth are showing up better and smell ok. I will see the vet soon so I will be more informed by her.

This product works great. However, the cat was not impressed with a liquid being spray in her mouth.
This stuff works!

I have a 15 year old kitty with horrendous breath. We have been to the vet about this and they suggested daily brushing, which is out of the question. In desperation I bought this. Within the first use we noticed a HUGE difference! I can now cuddle with my bubby and not want to gag. It's also fairly easy to use but it does require one of us to hold him down while the other sprays. WORTH IT.

Seems like a good concept only thing is my dog doesn’t like to have it sprayed onto her teeth / gums .
Helpful, not a miracle

I do find if I use this daily that it does keep my dog’s breath from knocking me over. I don’t see it helping the tartar build-up but I have not been using it that long. I have two dogs, 5 and 6 pounds, and they don’t seem to mind my spraying it in their mouths which I had thought might have been a problem.
It does what I expected

I rescued a 5lb senior chihuahua with about 10 teeth left. She still has pockets around the remaining teeth that keep her breath smelling bad! There's no other way to get in there and clean her mouth since she will not tolerate brushing. The spray helps a little. I just want to get rid of some of that bacteria, not expecting a miracle. I will start to use it on my other pups soon.
