I read the reviews and from the looks of it it’s a hit or miss but honestly my girls enjoyed it. The only reason why it’s not a 5 star review is because it’s packed so TIGHTLY! It’s hard to get out of the bag. Other than that it’s great, just wish that it wasn’t packed so tightly. I’m glad I got a big bag because it’s going fast. Bunnies happy so I’m happy
I was using just Timothy hay, but my rabbits weren’t eating as much hay as they should have been. I switched them to oxbow and they can’t get enough! Yes it costs more than Timothy hay but honestly it’s worth it! Rabbit and rabbit mom approved!
This shredded piece of synthetic nylon twine was found inside this bag. This is not the first time I have found twine in an Oxbow bag of hay. This is a fairly common occurrence unfortunately. I like the Oxbow brand because it is generally a high-quality product, but the number of times I find synthetic material in the hay really concerns me. I can’t imagine what would happen if my guinea pigs ingested this twine.
Horrible product! My rabbit lost her fur and had very dry and flacky skin. We have no other bunnies and she lives inside the only way she could've gotten mites is from the hay. If you want to avoid an expensive vet bill I would not recommend buying this product.
Here's the deal.. no issue with Chewy at all... Oxbow needs to have some sort of quality control when it comes to choosing the hay they use. Most of the hay in my current bag contains, what I would call, the trash at the bottom of the hay pile. I expect more from Oxbow as a brand when it comes to giving my Guinea Pigs the best. I will be ordering one more time and then, if it doesn't get any better, I will be using a different brand. I do hope Chewy will pass this along to Oxbow. (Freshest by Feb 14, 2025 Lot 23045 7:58)
I've been purchasing this Oxbow Hay since 2016. This review is geared more towards Oxbow brand itself rather than a reflection on Chewy. Honestly, it is hit or miss when it comes to hay quality. This is very inconsistent with either being really fresh and green or really brown and dry pieces. Chewy does a remarkable job and handling these situations when it comes to quality issues. I think Chewy could do a little more with checking these inventory for the greenest and freshest hay and sending back to Oxbow the lot numbers that are poor quality.
The hay is always decent quality, albeit somewhat inconsistent in texture, likely due to using different cuttings. Recently I've been finding bits of bailing twine in it though which is not okay. I'll probably be switching to a different brand.
I could not feed this to my rabbits. It caused them to lose their hair, and the vet said that that she thought there were hay mites in it.
Our guinea pigs love this hay. A bonus is they it contains plenty of seed heads, which we save out and give them as treats.
I rescued three guinea pigs over 4yrs ago , that were fed pellets rarely , but was fed iceberg lettuce and cat food yes cat food , I rescued them and it took about 3 months for them to eat timothy but once they started eating they could not get enough . I only have one left out of the three which is Rosie & she loves this brand & mix .
