I am looking for a pink (or purple) litter box with high sides, as my girl likes to kick litter out the back of her box, but doesn’t like enclosed boxes. Can this be used without the hood? What is the height of the front and back of the tray without the hood?

The hood for this litter pan is removable. The Large is approximately 6.5 inches in the back and 3.5 inches in the front without the hood. The Jumbo is approximately 8 inches in the back and 4.5 inches in the front without the hood.

Is the Large size Petmate Basic Hooded Cat Litter Pan good for 10+ pound cat?

The litter boxes do not have weight limits, however, we recommend that you measure your cat prior to purchase. A litter box should be one-and-a-half times the length of your cat from tip of the nose to base of the tail. The large box measures 18.8 x 15.2 x 14 inches, and the jumbo box measures 24 x 19 x 18.5 inches.

It works! Not perfect, but good enough!

You pretty much get what you pay for with this litter box, with some half-hearted build quality. My new cat uses this and seems fairly content with it, the hooded top keeps most of the smells in, and it's small size fits the dimensions of the closet in my room. It is a cheap, serviceable litter box. And with cheap prices comes some minor annoyances! When I ordered this product, the door's plastic was just big enough around the edges that it would get stuck on the hood. The only way to open it was by firmly pushing it and having the plastic edges scrape each other, which I knew my cat would not be willing to do. I ended up getting a boxcutter and whittling the sides of the door down so that it could swing both sides with ease (I cut my finger doing this so that was fun to deal with). That's when I noticed another problem. This door's hinges are secure, too secure! It does not close behind my cat when he enters to do his business. I have now started sanding the hinges down with sandpaper so that the door can more easily close behind my sweet boy, but the door still moves like molasses, so it's a work in progress. If you want a litter box that will do everything you want it to and then some, spend more money. This litter box is not going to solve all of your problems, but it will solve the biggest one: My cat needs a place to poop and pee and I want the smell to be mostly contained, and in that regard this box does good enough!

Too small for Ami

Somewhere (possibly in a review) that it would accommodate large cats. It is too small for Ami's comfort. It is extremely difficult to scoop due to the rounded corners

It is so low in the front Ami scatters litter. I will donate to my local humane society and order another one when my Social Security check arrives. It might be fine for a small cat or kittens ( except for the scooping issue).
