What are the measurements for the LARGE PetSafe Extreme Weather Pet Door?

The outer frame for the large door measures 12 ½ x 19 ¾ inches, listed as length x width.

Can other critters get in?

This pet door includes a snap-on panel which can be used to keep other animals out, when needed. However, when the panel is not in place, any animals small enough to use the pet door would be able to use it. We also carry the PetSafe Electronic SmartDoor which uses a SmartKey to allow only the programmed pets to enter/exit for added security.

I would like to put a pet door in my back door which has decorative cut outs in the wood frame. Does it have to be a flush surface to install.

Can I install this in my petsafe patio door (panel)? The flap that’s there is rather weak

The flap on this door can only be used with the attached frame.

I had one of these years ago that the flaps went bad. It worked great. Did not know where to buy new flaps so bought this after trying several others since it was from the same company I had originally. It works better than the ones with a door you pull up or push down to open or close. However, they cheapened it by what looks like the side of the flaps are smaller with no felt to block the wind or sun here in the country. The magnets work fairly well but I think they could be wider along the bottom once again to keep the wind, bugs, sunlight out. Unfortunately this is the best one out of five I tried whose flaps stuck up when the cats passed through the flaps. I've spent a fortune paying someone to take out and install new ones not to mention the cost of the doors. Like I said this is the best of the ones I tried within a year. The ones where the door pulls up suck. Not worth the money. At least this one the flaps pretty much close at the bottom however leaving air in on the sides and not staying closed during strong winds. I would recommend petsafe pet doors to be the best of all that I tried.

I installed one of these in my shop for the dogs. After about one winter, the flaps started falling off when the temperature got below zero. The entire unit is made of plastic. I replace the door with the same unit since I already had that size hole in the door. Now that the temperature has fallen below zero, the flaps started falling off again. I have had two of these and I have not got two full seasons out of one yet.

1st I tried to replace the old flaps. The plastic screws that hold the frame would not come off easy or just break. So I ordered a new total replacement. Still took

1st I tried to replace the old flaps. The plastic screws that hold the frame would not come off easy or just break. So I ordered a new total replacement. Still took over an hour for me and a great handyman to install. There are much better trap doors on the market. I own one in my vacation home.

I personally love the look and sturdiness of the door and flaps. I was so disappointed when it was too small. That’s absolutely my fault. The measurements on the outside were the same but once I got the old one removed from a very old storm door and alas , the inside diameter was 2 inches smaller. The old door was surrounded by aluminum channels and extremely difficult to remove. So , if it wasn’t for my mistake, I would definitely rate this a five star. Actually, I’m going to change to 5 star because I’m going to hope I can return this one and that a larger one is available.
