Is the dried gall fruit edible?

Answer by ChewyJan 16, 2026
Their gall fruits (fruit of silvervine) are 100% natural and edible. Please rest assured when giving it to cats because they are absolutely safe for cats to chew and bite.

These toys were an immediate success in our house! The second I opened the box and handed one to Truffles, he took off running with it like he’d won a prize. Of course, Asher and Greyson chased him down the hall trying to steal it I passed out the other two ropes and it turned into a full-blown play party. Floof (our older alpha cat) claimed one for himself, while Stirling and Asher paired up on another. Truffles and Greyson each grabbed an end of theirs and started tugging, chewing, and batting at each other. They had SO much fun pulling, chewing, and wrestling over these toys. It was honestly hilarious to watch. Great quality, super engaging, and perfect for multi-cat households. Definitely a win and I’ll be buying these again so each cat can have their own.

The ropes arrived this morning and I immediately took one out. The cat who was awake at the time was all over the rope! Once she finally chilled out, the other cat sniffed it out. She's usually pretty chill, but this gave her some spunk. When the 1st went over to see what was going on, she got popped in the head. A little arm wrestling and I pulled out a 2nd rope. Now I need to put the ropes in separate rooms maybe so the older cat doesn't think they're both hers! So far, it's 5 stars here!

Perfect length

To preface this, I'll say that this is definitely a hit or miss depending on your cat. My younger one couldn't care less while my older loves them so much it's now

To preface this, I'll say that this is definitely a hit or miss depending on your cat. My younger one couldn't care less while my older loves them so much it's now her go-to toy. The length is perfect if you want to hold on to one end and play without getting mauled. My cat has been playing with it every day for the past week and has yet to get bored of it. It's thick enough that she can't instantly rip it apart and though I saw some concern about the little bit at the end becoming a choking hazard, she prefers to just rub all over it and chew on the other parts of the rope.

Said was delivered but couldn't find it. Called Chewy's and The assistant was so fabulous and very helpful Cause of snow it was in mailbox. We gave one Rope to Nova and thought for sure he wouldn't like it.But oh my goodness,he was all over this rope. And if Nova spends more than five seconds on something, than it's a keeper .Thank you Chewy, and the fabulous assistant with the exquisite attitude (hope she gets a raise ,bonus,or reward for this.) Happy New Year to All Animal kingdom and to Human kind .

Toy Unsafe - Fruit needs rehydration

I got this toy for my cat for him to chew and clean his teeth more effectively. Zuzu (cat) loved the gall fruit at the end of the toy but hardly chewed the cotton part. One day he swallowed the gall fruit - yes, I should’ve been more watchful - and didn’t poop for 3 days. I read some really terrible things about dried gall fruit online; sad stories of cats passing or needing surgery for bowel obstruction. I was so worried during that time. He finally threw up the fruit and passed after some miralax and canned pumpkin. Well, after that experience, I feel this toy is unsafe and marketing is misleading.

Even the old man loves it

Both the cats were pretty interested in the box. My younger one tried stealing it away before I could get it open. I was shocked when my older cat wanted to play

Both the cats were pretty interested in the box. My younger one tried stealing it away before I could get it open. I was shocked when my older cat wanted to play with one of the ropes. I had to grab another out of the pack for him. He’s normally not really into toys but he is a sound in love with these

Purrfect in every way even for finicky kitties

All of the cats adore these chew ropes! I have to admit I didn't know if they were going to be a hit but happily they were! I even gave one to my neighbor's kitties

All of the cats adore these chew ropes! I have to admit I didn't know if they were going to be a hit but happily they were! I even gave one to my neighbor's kitties who are not that interested in toys. They LOVED the rope, dragged it about the house, rolled around with it. Mine did the same, bunny kicked it, carried it around. Great holiday stocking gift for the kitties!

I have two cats, but my older cat Sylvyie really likes to chew on the catnip enhanced nubs on the ends of those ropes. Sylvyie has a bunch of catnip enhanced chew toys and this one more has not been a disappointment at all. She rooks on her back, holds the thing between her front paws, rubs it around her face and the chews on it for a few minutes. Sylvyie is 11 years old now, it’s great to watch her feeling foolish over her chew toys.
