MAKING THE SWITCH TO PRO PLAN Although you'll be anxious to see the difference Pro Plan can make in your dog, please allow 7 - 10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets. Contains a source of live (viable) naturally occurring microorganisms. Provide adequate fresh water in a clean container daily. For your pet's health, see your veterinarian regularly.
***if you have a large breed dog prone to joint issues like hip dysplasia, please realize this doesn’t contain Glucosamine whereas the regular large breed puppy food does. I didn’t realize this until today and my 2 year old GSD has shown signs of weak or painful hips since he was a puppy and now I feel awful for not supplementing that missing vitamin for the last year he’s been eating this :( I thought this improved his itching for a bit but it turns out it’s done nothing for his itching. In fact, I added zesty paws salmon oil to his food bc it had such amazing reviews thinking that would help subside his itching once it came back but it quickly made it worse. I’ll be switching from this entire PPP sensitive/salmon formula after this bag and making sure he has Glucosamine from now on. I really feel so bad he missed this piece of nutrition in the most important stages of his life and never noticed it was missing until now.
Our 4 month old pup was first eating purina pro-plan, large breed puppy, chicken and rice. He loved it. I wanted to give him a variety of flavors so I bought a bag of the salmon. It reeks of fish smell, enough to make me gag, but I thought oh that must be good. After feeding him a few meals mixed with other food he has constant diarrhea, was constantly itching and started not wanting to eat the food. We will be switching back to chicken and rice or switching away from pro-plan even.
Once again I can’t say enough about this food! It has been amazing for my bulldogs as they typically have sensitive skin and issues from that! No problems here!!! Thanks to this food. They are healthy plump happy babes! Vet is pleased with our health as well and recommends this now!!!!
I started our 10-month-old lab/ malamute/ husky mix on Blue Buffalo, and she liked it just fine. However, it did not agree with her stomach. My vet informed me that chicken allergy is quite common in dogs, and she recommended that I gradually transition her to a chicken-free diet (which stinks because it was an excellent high-value, one-ingredient reward). I switched her to the Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Salmon and Rice recipe, and it's been smooth sailing ever since. She loves the flavor (the salmon recipe is a bit stinkier than the Blue Buffalo chicken, which is a plus in Fiona's book), and her bowel movements have been regular and healthy (Is that TMI on Chewy?). I have also noticed that she has not been scratching as she did previously with the chicken recipe. Also, the four-week auto-ship option seems to be the perfect schedule for the moment.
We have had my boy on this for a couple weeks. We switched him from the regular puppy to large breed as he is supposed to grow to be about 60 pounds. As soon as we started introducing this food he has had constant diarrhea. We have given it time, thinking maybe the tradition was just hard on his stomach (though it wasn’t all at once even though they were both sensitive skin and stomach salmon). We just got another bag of this the other day and don’t even want to feed it to him. We still have the majority of the first bag in the bin and are considering switching him to Hills or even getting a prescription diet for his poor tummy
My Lab puppy has a super sensitive stomach and had chronic diarrhea with almost anything I tried feeding him. He did see the vet, was de-wormed and on an antibiotic just in case something else was going on. My vet recommended Purina one, so I figured I'd try this one with salmon for sensitive stomach. He couldn't handle the chicken one. So far he's doing great, but even after 4 cups daily, he's always hungry. I guess growing fast, he's going to be a big guy. Kibble is on the tiny side too.
Received this product after three days of emails saying it would arrive today. My pup is likely allergic to it as she rapidly developed swelling at her muzzle. Very unpleasant odor as well. FWIW.
Was previously on Purina large breed puppy and he seemed to be itchy and was always doing the tiny biting along his body. Decided to switch and see how he did with this one. Had to transition immediately without adding old food and he never got diarrhea. Healthy stool and no chewing on himself. So far this food seems to be great and he LOVES it. He loves it so much that we had to get a slow feeder, which he is NOT a fan of.
I really wanted this to work for my puppy, but it seems to be giving him an upset stomach. Everyday he has soft stools, even with trying to add pumpkin and a probiotic, so I’ll be switching him to a new food.
A few months ago, I gradually switched my 10 month old lab/pit mix puppy over to Purina Pro Plan sensitive stomach salmon and rice from her previous food, which was Purina Pro Plan lamb and rice (both puppy versions). I have noticed a drastic difference in her coat quality. Her fur has thinned and has lost its shine. I have also noticed quite a bit of dandruff. I haven’t changed anything else in her diet/life so I have to believe this is the reason. Over all not impressed and she did not respond well. I will be switching back to PPP Puppy Lamb and Rice
