How many cups per pound?
Answer by ChewyAug 04, 2021
There are approximately 4 cups per pound of kibble.

Where is this dog food made?
Answer by ChewyMar 20, 2022
Of all Purina pet food products sold in the USA, 99% are made in the USA. The vast majority of ingredients used in Purina products made in the U.S. are sourced here in the U.S. Like other food companies, Purina does source a limited amount of ingredients from other countries, including China. These ingredients are primarily essential nutrients, such as taurine and B vitamins that are not commonly available in the U.S. in the quantities we need. Purina ensures that all of the ingredients they use meet the same high-quality standards. This includes ingredients we source from China.

Is the salmon farm raised or sourced from the ocean or another water source? How are mercury levels monitored in the salmon?
Answer by ChewyFeb 13, 2022
Purina utilizes both farm-raised and ocean-caught seafood in their products. As part of their comprehensive food safety and ingredient surveillance programs, they do test for well over 150 substances — including mercury. At Purina, all seafood vendors must go through an extensive Vendor Approval Process including on-site audits and repeated ingredient testing for mercury and other contaminants, with preference given to geographical areas and fish species known to have low mercury residues. Only those vendors that pass this review process are approved vendors of Purina.

Is this dog food grain free?
Answer by ChewyJun 30, 2021

I think it works

My 4 year old Weim Fiona has been plagued by skin issues. We have done cytopoint , Apoquel, antibiotics, steroids and soaks. Finally the rash and interdigital cysts are resolved. She likes the food ( she is not picky) and our other dog eats it as well. My next step is to try to wean her off of the Apoquel.

Top 1000 Contibutor

A nice addition to the rotation

My 8 year old rescue has eaten the Purina HA diets for years. Just purchased the salmon to give him some variety and he loves it, but he is not a picky eater. The chicken flavor actually smells pretty good, I think, but this one is sort of off-putting. I'm not the one eating it, though! FYI: the "chicken" and "salmon" flavored foods still have all hydrolyzed protein in it, so even if your dog is allergic to poultry or fish, it is safe to feed. If your dog is reacting to hydrolyzed diets, Purina just came out with their "Elemental" RX diet for the most sensitized dogs that you could ask your vet about.

unpalatable

Our two collies have been on a hydrolyzed protein diet for 3 years. They have done well on the Pro Plan HA chicken flavor and the original flavor. I was excited to see a new flavor to throw into the mix as they seem to get tired of the same old flavor after awhile. But they hate this and will not eat it unless they are starving. We often give some kibble to our backyard crow. We tried to give him this and he threw it down and just stared at us, like it was fake food.

Price Has Increased

There is absolutely no reason for a $5.00 price increase on this already expensive food. Insurers push back on paying for it since it's NOT FDA approved. My dog should have it but the price increases are not justified.

Food for thought

This food is SO expensive, but my vet recommended it because my German shepherd is having some issues. He doesn't seem to care for it much. We've always used a purina brand food and he has always ate it with no problem. For some reason with this food he's eating a lot less. For now this is what he will eat and hopefully it helps with all his belly issues.

Mary Claire's food allergies

My fur baby is allergic to chicken and beef. I had to find a product that did not contain these items that she would eat. For my girl, she likes this food. Purchased in smallest bag to make certain her system would tolerate. Just back from vet today and so far, things are good with this food.

Chewy is Great

Love Chewy and the availability of this product when other vendors are out of stock. But, my dog HATES all hydrolyzed protein kibble. My vet prescribed it for protein allergy and irritable bowel disease. He simply won't eat it unless I add canned hydrolyzed protein food and that is like $4.50 plus a can.

So Far - So Good

Pinkie's skin condition is delicate and spreading. The vet prescribed this hydrolyzed food because the protein particles are so small, her body doesn't react as badly. Slowly, but surely, after a couple of weeks, her skin is improving. She is enjoying the salmon flavor. Next bag we will try chicken and I hope she eats it happily.

Skin Allergy Solution

My 5 yr old Weim has had skin allergies off and on for years, of course she also had table scraps. Changed her diet using Purina Pro Plan HA per Vets request, and NO table food and my Weim's skin allergies have gone away, and no more medicine. The food may be pricey but worth the cost for the health of my baby.

Vet Recommended

Great dog food. Trying to get away from a chicken diet is difficult with dog foods. My vet recommended this and my dog has lost weight.
