How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

special food for a special condition.
By Pepper on Jan 19, 2021
Our vet recommended this canned food after our dog was recovering from a surgery for eating/swallowing an acorn. She was having trouble digesting any food, and had weeks of very loose stools. We had used this food with our two diabetic dogs, and took his advice to try it with this dog. She liked the taste and ate it willingly. It took a couple of weeks to transition to this food, but now it is her staple. Her digestive system is repaired and she is her active, alert and loving self.

Miracle dog food for my 12 1/2 yr. old Standard Wire-haired Dachshund
By Pauli on Dec 20, 2020
When I got my dachshund at 12 wks. old she came with the horrible parasite called Giardia. She has had stomach and gastro issues off and on her whole life and this was the dog food my Vet back in NY recommended for her. My Mattie has been fed strictly high quality dog from day one, but now, because she is a senior pup and gastro issues are more frequent, this canned dog food is her primary staple along with the Purina Pro Plan dry dog food for EN Gastroenteric. If she eats anything else she get wicked diarrhea. This dog food has been a life savor for my wonderful Dachshund.

My Rambo Learned to Eat the Food
By Rambo on Jan 26, 2021
I could not get Rambo to eat the food when we first got it. After several tries, by mixing it with his previous food, he started eating it. I still have to mix a little of the other food for now. Hopefully he will start eating only his new food.

My dog loves it!
By RobS on Jan 13, 2021
Not sure if it is because it's something new and different from what he's been served, but my dog loves this food and gobbles it down every time! To me, it seems much more dry than other canned foods, but that doesn't seem to bother him!

Looking for a miracle

My 13 yr. old Schnoodle has pancreatitis. My vet recommended this diet to try to diminish the effects from this disease. He does seem to have more energy. Hope it continues!

4 Paws up for flavor!!
By Fiona on Jul 7, 2020
While an unfortunate "bug" created the need for this food, it was very helpful in helping my pups recover. They absolutely loved the taste of this stuff! One of them is now refusing their original food because they've grown to like it so much. Smells good, has a dense consistency just slightly firmer than pate. Wouldn't hesitate to offer it again.

Dog did not like
By Diva on Jun 14, 2020
My dog has to be on a low fat diet. She did not care for this product at all. The way the product looked and smelled was a turn off I think for her. Sometimes if I mixed the food with chicken broth and heated it up in the microwave she would eat a little. I have now found a brand she likes very well.
