We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.
How are Royal Canin diets preserved?
All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.
Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?
We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?
Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.
Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?
Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.
How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?
Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.
How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?
Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

She loves it!
By Lulu on Oct 30, 2020
I have tried multiple dry and wet dog foods, only to have my 4-pound Yorkie turn up her nose. I could never find a food she would eat consistently. Not so with Royal Canin X-Small/X-Petit. I can count on her emptying the bowl every time I serve it. The tiny, round kibbles are perfect for her small mouth, and the dry kibbles help clean her teeth. She loves it sprinkled with water, too. I know she's getting balanced nutrition, perfect for her size and breed.

Russian Toy dog seems to like it
By Ameenah on Aug 30, 2020
The pieces are small enough and right consistency for my Russian Toy. Often I mix in a bit of Royal Canin small dog wet food pouch for variety. Wish they had pouches of wet food for toy dogs - but none yet from Royal Canin. Wish it came in smaller size bags. A 2.5 pound bag of food lasts for months - in fact the resealable closure on the bag always breaks about 1/2 way thru the food. Having to open and reseal twice a day is just too much for the poor quality resealable closures. So either a better quality closure or a smaller size bag would be great.

Meat Isn't 1st Ingredient
By angi on Aug 31, 2020
My chihuahua does love it & that's a definite selling point, but I won't be buying again because meat isn't the 1st ingredient. If that's not a big deal to you, many people swear by this for finicky small breeds.

You can always trust Royal Canin

I recently switched to this variety, from the Royal Cabin Shitzu blend. She loves this and she is a picky eater.

Perfect food for my adult Chi
By DoggyDaddy on May 8, 2020
I started my little guy on the puppy chow and moved him up to the adult blend. He loves the taste and gobbles it up in seconds flat. He is very healthy and digests the food easily. His breeder recommended this brand and I can see why.

Perfectly small food for my CHI
By Ronnie59 on Apr 16, 2020
Good food, good size. my chihuahua loves it. I have a picky eater and yet, she loves this kibble. Easier for her to chew no doubt. At 14 yrs old and less teeth, she has tried a lot of foods over the years, this is tailored to her health and size (4.4 pounds) needs. Thank you Chewy for always having what my pooch wants and loves.

Chi’s love it!
By MickFox on May 13, 2020
I have a very small Chihuahua and one that is overweight. I had hoped that a little larger kibble would slow the heavy one down when eating. But the smaller one loves this kibble!! Both eat it though!
