About Royal Canin Dermatology For Cats

Worried About Your Cat’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common, and issues can appear anywhere on your cat’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some cats.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your cat can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out.

Infection

Kittens, older cats, and cats that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health issues.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your cat. These special formulations can:

Aid digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

Autoship

Keep your cat's feeding on schedule.  Set your order for Autoship to make sure you always have their veterinarian-recommended nutrition on hand.

Questions & Answers

25 Customer Questions

My cat has been tested for allergies. He is a +13 on peas; +33 on soybeans and a NEG 10 on rabbit. Venison was not on test panel. Natural Balance Venison/green pea or Rabbit/green pea is his current diet. What is % of peas in your Peas/rabbit vet prescription food?
Answer by ChewyDec 26, 2017
At this time, the percent of pea's used in this recipe is proprietary information. Royal Canin formulates these recipes specifically for pets with allergies and sensitivities. We encourage pet parents to speak with the veterinarian for the best possible formula for their feline.

What state in the United States is this manufactured from? Thank you
Answer by ChewyFeb 06, 2018
Royal Canin is manufactured in Missouri and South Dakota.

My 4 month old kitten will not stop eating this food from my grown cat's bowl. Is it bad for kittens as a diet?
Answer by ChewySep 10, 2017
This formula is specially medicated to treat and help your pet. It should only be fed to the pet that has an approval from your veterinarian.

"Rabbit meal" - what is "meal"? Does this food contain by-products?
Answer by ChewyApr 28, 2021
Rabbit meal is made up of rabbit that has been ground and cooked, reducing the fat content to create a protein-rich ingredient. This formula does not contain by-products. For a complete list of ingredients and the guaranteed analysis, click the “Nutritional Info” tab on the product page.

Unfortunately unpalatable

My cat is a trashcan. Unluckily for him, he is also a trashcan with food sensitivities, which we hoped to address with this diet. I like Royal Canin, but I guess he does not! He refuses to eat it (very unlike him); we had no issues with him eating the hydrolyzed diet purchased directly from my vet, so he is eating that again until we figure out how to try the food trial she has prescribed since he will not eat this.

The food was fine. Charlie decided she didn't like crunchies!

The service and quick response to my changing food was phenomenal. I have a very picky cat with anxiety issues. She was fading away but with the help of her vet and Chewy she is back on track. Thank you Chewy, for all your help!

Cheaper than the local petstore AND didn't have to drive

The first time I had to purchase this, I drove to three different local pet stores looking for it. This time I tried Chewy. Not only was it available with free shipping, I got it in 2 days AND it was cheaper than the petsore where I found it last time. Yeah, yeah, "supply chain issues" - but being able to find it immediately (from my couch) order it, upload the prescription right then and there, and then have it arrive free in a few days , for a cheaper price -- was a total WIN. I do try to shop local - but I don't have the time (or the gas) to drive around looking for stuff.

Stopped my cat from chronic vomitting

A switch to rabbit protein seems to be exactly what my cat needed. He was vomiting every other day, sometimes every day. He was eating poultry, fish or beef based food. Took him to the vet and had an ultra sound and nothing came back definitive so I took it upon myself to try switching to a novel protein as recommended by a friend and he immediately stopped vomiting. He eats this and also takes Cerenia, a vomit-suppressor. Now he only vomits once a week. My cat has never really been picky but he enjoys this food.

Very Surprised

I've tried several hypoallergenic foods since our vet said that's what our cat must eat, and she's grown tired of each one after one day. To my amazement, she loves this one and gobbles it up to such an extent that now we're concerned about her weight gain!

My cat loves

Due to skin issue one of my cat has to stay with this diet, I bought the can food she was just ok to it, but once I got this dry food she asks for it all the time when she is hungry. I can only guess the taste is good as right now.

Royal Canin Pea & Rabbit dry cat food

My vet recommended my dad feed me the Royal Canin PR dry food for my skin and stomach issues. Chewy got my order to me really fast and I’m liking it.

an especially good back-up

my cat has been prescribed this diet by her vet and typically she eats the canned wet food; however that has not been available for some time so having the dry food is a lifesaver! and she seems to like it.

Great food, highly recommend.

One of our three cats was diagnosed with a food allergy and our vet recommended this product. All three cats have really enjoyed this food, and our cat with the food allergy is acting like her normal self and not on medication anymore. Highly recommend!
