About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Dogs

Royal Canin, incredible in every detail. Tailored nutritional solutions for gastrointestinal health.
Acute or chronic? If your Veterinarian thinks your pet has a gastrointestinal issue, they may classify it as acute or chronic. Acute conditions appear suddenly and deteriorate rapidly. Chronic conditions develop over time and may worsen gradually.

Worried About Your Dog’s Digestion?

Your dog’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Dog’s GI System

  1. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  2. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion; inflamation of the pancreas may be cause by a high fat diet or treats.
  3. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  4. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  5. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

How Nutrition Can Help

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin GI formula that is

Easily digestible to help reduce the load on the gastrointestinal tract

Formulated with omega-3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA to aid digestive health and antioxidants to support a healthy immune system

Highly palatable to encourage eating, even when appetite is decreased due to gastrointestinal upset

Balanced for good digestion, with a blend of fibers and prebiotics to support digestive health

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

Has anyone had experience with this food and repeat anal gland issues? My boy suffers from anal gland issues from time to time and I am wondering if this food has helped anyones pet.

Answer by ChewyJan 14, 2021
Royal Canin recommends their High Fiber formula for anal gland concerns.

Is high fiber the same as the fiber response? My dog has a very sensitive GI tract and she needs what she has been eating which is the fiber response.

Answer by ChewyDec 13, 2020
Due to your individual pets specific health concern, we recommend consulting your Veterinarian to see what would be the safest fit for your pets current treatment plan.

Out of nowhere, our 13 year old beagle began experiencing stomach distress. We did not change his diet. We assumed he'd managed to eat something that he shouldn't have. The vet recommended a course of this food, and it was entirely successful. We went through the small bag and his severe constipation and cramping was completely addressed. We slowly transitioned back to his old food. He was find for a couple of months, and we had to return back to blending this food with his "fresh food' which may not have enough fiber for his senior needs.

Adopted an emaciated dog with worms that caused chronic colitis and diarrhea despite metronidazole and w/d. This diet has helped a bunch. He’s even gaining weight now. We have tried to wean him off once but it was too soon, I may try again once he hits ideal weight. It will be a year in Jan since we started on the RC. I wish they made larger bags that’s the only downside.

My dog struggled with constipation for two months. We started a high-fiber veterinary diet two weeks ago, and things are definitely improving. I’ve tried another high-fiber food alongside these kibbles, but I believe the Royal Canin diet is playing a big role in our progress.
