Questions & Answers

11 Customer Questions

would this work in an outside cat house?
Answer by ChewySep 18, 2020
Sweet Meadow Farm' Straw Bedding is designed for small animals but it should be suitable for an outdoor cat house.

Straw doesn’t weigh much, so how big is the bag that comes with 15 ounces of straw?
Answer by ChewyJan 05, 2021
The straw 15 ounce package dimensions are about 16 inches tall by 8 inches wide and about 6 inches deep.

Is this bedding weed free? (maybe certified weed free?)
Answer by ChewyMay 22, 2021
This straw bedding currently is bright yellow wheat straw. While no one can say for sure if any straw, hay or alfalfa is completely weed free, this crop is currently as close as it could get when it comes to being weed free.

can this be used for a chinchilla?????
Answer by ChewyDec 24, 2020
This bedding is suitable for Chinchillas. It may not be the most absorbent bedding, but it is an all natural bedding. It makes a comfy, warm bedding for inside a nesting box of any type.

Great to use for feral cat houses

We have a group of feral cats that live in our backyard. All have been through the TNR program. Our job is to provide shelter and food for the remainder of their lives. I keep several homemade houses that they can climb in and get warm during the colder nights. Was using blankets, but found an article that recommended straw because it repels water and stays drier than blankets. This straw is doing the trick. It is easy to put into the houses and the cats know just how to make a comfortable bed. Keeps them dry and warm. Will order this from now on because these guys deserve the very best.

This is for my outdoor kitty house.

There is a lot of straw packed in this little bag. I am using it in my outdoor kitty house and it's a double house and less than half the bag was enough to fill it. It eases my mind that the stray cats have a warm place to sleep. There are always 2 - 3 cuddled up in the house. I am also using an outdoor heating pad which warms up when the cats lay on it.

All Natural Straw... reasonably priced!

I bought a large box of the All Natural Straw to use as bedding in an outside shelter for the feral neighborhood cats. Changing over from a slab of styrofoam took some getting used to by the 6-8 cats that come by daily. But at least one has taken to resting in the shelter for longer periods throughout the day. I think they are very comfortable.

a happy cat?

I had built a house for a feral cat. Now after purchasing your straw and putting it inside I am waiting for a resident. I have seen footprints in the snow. Today we are to get from 4 to 8 feet of snow and I'm sure a feral cat will move in.

Don’t waste your money.

I bought this straw for a winter straw in my rabbits hutch. I wanted something dust free due to the sleeping area being more closed off for the winter. The straw is not dust free by any means, more dust then regular straw. It’s cut into tiny pieces so makes a huge mess, falls everywhere and gets stuck in their fur. It does not feel like straw more like plastic. My rabbits use to love cage change outs and looking through their new straw for any wheat seeds, they are not one bit excited about it. Not recommended at all! Does not smell good, expensive , and a huge mess. I disliked this product so much I used the 2 boxes for ground cover for my plants.

Great for Feral/Stray kitty shelters

We have a few homeless kitties that basically live in our backyard. We made a few shelters from plastic totes and this stuff is GREAT for the flooring. It stays dry and they like to nestle in it. Really helps keep them warm.

straw for cats

Is better straw than the raw bundled straw from a farm. Keeps the stray cats warm and dry. I dont know if its processed or something but it has a nice golden color and texture, no crumbly powder or fine dust like in raw farm straw (i also have raw farm straw which is sometimes used as base beneath the better straw when a lot is needed in the thermal shelter)

It really works

I have 6 cats in my back yard. 2 of them were born there. All are neutered and have chosen to live there. We're high up in the foothills and its very cold now in the winter. I read somewhere that straw will keep their bedding dry and the cats dry. and It does! Its a lot of compacted straw in a large box which is all used up by now. I will be ordering more.

Straw great bargain

Needed straw to set up a feral cat shelter. Very inexpensive compared to others but since I wasnt sure how big of a bag ordered 2. Happy to see how much I actually received only needed half a bag for the shelter.

Great stuff.

Had to cut some in half from the length, but used it for added insulation for my feral cat boxes that I hide in the woods for them. Helps to keep the bottom warm and they must like it better than the horse hay I've been buying the last few years, because they have been showing up to eat they always have little pieces stuck in their fur. And it's much easier to just dump a bag per container then fighting with those big bales, even my big long box I just had to dump in 2, so easy.
