For active, growing, pregnant, or nursing pets, offer handfuls of alfalfa hay to your pet(s) daily. For older pets, use as a treat by giving just a pinch of alfalfa. Offer different hays together to add variety to your pet's diet and to find your pet's favorite types of hay.
I have driven an hour for this hay before. So glad it's on Chewy now. It's my 3 rabbits favorite hay. My cat even eats it since they are friends. It smells delicious and I know it's nutritious. 1st cut is preferred because it takes longer to chew. This comes from a small farm so I also feel good about buying it.
Nice hay, nice price
on Oct 10, 2021
This brand is priced a little less than the one I use most, so I decided to see what it’s like. My rabbits really seem to like it. There’s less wasted that went uneaten, and that made me feel like I was getting a good value. My guinea pigs, however, didn’t completely eat it, but it did serve us well, so I will be buying it again,
I love SMF hay
on Sep 13, 2021
Very fresh and green, and always smells really good. I've always been very happy with Sweet Meadow Farm timothy hay, and now that I don't live near Sherborn, MA any longer (where they are based), Chewy's shipping makes buying it a lot more cost effective. I used to just go to the farm and pick up a bale or a mini-bale, but the 9 pound boxes work quite well. Both SMF and Chewy have really good return policies in case you get an unsatisfactory shipment (as I've read some people have - it happens sometimes) - they are always veryfast to replace it.
Bunny refuses to eat it
on Oct 10, 2021
When I first open the box the hay looked dark and dead(like barely green like the hay I usually get). I've had this for maybe close to a month now and my bunny refuses to eat it. He won't touch it at all! I definitely should have read the reviews before buying this. Take this off the site or give better quality please!
I Really Wanted To Like This Hay
on Sep 13, 2021
I really wanted to like this hay. It is affordable, I can have it delivered to my doorstep & it's exactly the right size for my needs. However, the quality of the hay is generally not the greatest and often incredibly poor. Anyone who has an animal that relies on hay as their main source of nutrition understands the struggle to find quality hay consistently. I do not recommend you use this hay for anything including bedding. This last box arrived completely rotten all the way through.
So far so good

My buns are 5 and 6 years old and they have pretty much used the same hay all of their life. Lately the hay we used to get has been getting was a lot of shake more than anything. This hay smells so good and they seem to really like it. We had no issue switching over.

This hay immediately did not look good. It looked old and my rabbits wouldn't even eat it. I had to mix a little in with a lot of other hay and finally got through it after forever! It was dark and dingy and I don't know if this is the norm or if I got a bad batch. Will not purchase again.
My piggies looooove it
on Jul 21, 2021
I've been buying hay from Sweet Meadow Farm for years - even before they started selling through Chewy. My piggies love it! At my most I've had 4 boys and it's so convenient to get it in bulk.
One reivew below said it looked weird, floppy, and didn't have any seed pods... so I had to come in and defend my fav farm lol. It's not supposed to have those because it's 2nd cut hay. If you're looking for stiffer hay and more seed puffs they do have 1st cut, but that's too stiff for our needs. My senior boy can't do 1st cut hay anymore - he had a lot of problems with getting poked in the eye frequently and had a lot of trouble eating it. This 2nd cut is perfect for him. My younger piggie loves itI've been buying hay from Sweet Meadow Farm for years - even before they started selling through Chewy. My piggies love it! All in all, your pets' needs might vary. If this doesn't work for you, try another type!… more
It’s okay, not what I was expecting.

I bought Oxbow brand originally from the pet store (it smelled amazing and was green) when that ran out I went with this brand and received it like this. It’s brown and had a different smell even though it claims to be the same hay as what I got from Oxbow. I didn’t realize it was second cut either. Very flat and brown. My pigs are eating it, so that’s a plus. I’ll obviously use this entire box but will probably second guess purchasing this again.

Chewy no longer had Small Pet Select available, I ordered Sweet Meadow. Hay is brown and subpar, I will definitely not order this again and am ordering something else for my 2 beautiful skinny pigs.
