Tresaderm is a combination ear and skin medication prescribed to dogs and cats. This medication contains an antifungal, corticosteroid and a broad-spectrum antibiotic to treat inflammation, as well as bacterial and fungal infections of the ear and skin. This topical solution comes in convenient drop form, making treatment easier for you and your pet.
Tresaderm is applied directly on the skin or in the ears in order to kill susceptible bacteria, fungus, and yeast. It also helps relieve local inflammation associated with the infection.
Possible Side Effects
Skin irritation and redness at the affected area is possible. If Tresaderm is used on an open wound, it can cause minimal pain for up to 15 minutes. If ingested or used chronically, side effects from the dexamethasone may be noted including increased drinking/urination, vomiting, immune suppression, and weight gain. These side effects can resolve when the dosage is decreased.
Some pets may have an allergic reaction to the ingredients in Tresaderm although this is not common.
Drug & Food Interactions
Interactions are possible with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), other corticosteroids, or gentamicin. Other interactions may occur. Discuss all medications/supplements your pet is taking with your veterinarian prior to giving Tresaderm to make sure it can be given safely.
Pets with an allergy to any of ingredients shouldn't use Tresaderm. In dogs birth defects have been reported with the use of corticosteroids. This medication shouldn't be ingested; it's for topical use only. Avoid contact with eyes.
