Varenzin-CA1 is the first of its kind in veterinary medicine and only FDA conditionally approved option for the treatment of non-regenerative anemia in cats with CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease). Varenzin-CA1 stimulates a cat’s body to create its own erythropoietin (EPO). EPO is a hormone released from the kidneys that signals bone marrow to make red blood cells. Varenzin-CA1 provides a reasonable expectation of efficacy with minimal side effects and is approved for convenient at-home treatment with no in-clinic injections needed.

My 15 yo Persian (JR) had CKD and Anemia. He had completed Aranesp and this was his last option. He did not have any heart issues (he had an MRI and had been on fluids prior to this). The first two days we were very hopeful, he was eating well and was attentive, playful and so very loving. He had his 3rd measured dose that evening and the next morning I found him lying on his side, breathing heavily, unable to stand or lift his head. On the way to our Vet he died I my arms. Devastating. I’m sure this works well in some pets but it wasn’t that way for us. CKD is a horrible disease. Our last baby, Murphy, is now Stage 2 CKD. Very difficult. We lost JR 11/28/25.

We took our little guy Charlie to the vet. She said he had Stage 4 kidney disease. She told us there is these shots but was so expensive. I went home used AI to ask for a better solution. It told me about this and it was so cheaper and way less side effects. At this point we had no choice. We give it to hom after he eats. He loves it. My vet was so excited. She said ahe disnt think he would make it first time she saw him before taking this. She said they can only have 4 separate doses. This is his second. He is just a little over now what he needs to be. She said after this last dose he will be perfect. Charlie went from hiding in places. Laying there looking terrible to now he is playing more then he ever has at almost 18. I thank God for this medication. Its going to give us more time with our little guy.

WORKS BUT

Started my 17-year-old cat on this medication because of anemia not due to kidney issues. He definitely gained more energy, but also became a little erratic. All of his normal behaviors changed. He no longer sleeps with me. I’m not sure if he sleeps very much at all. He seems like he’s a little strung out. Totally different cat on these meds. personality is different. Habits are different. The medication is doing what it’s supposed to do. He loves it. Loves the taste of it. Has not any issues with vomiting. We did one 28 day round. Seven days off. Starting our second 28 day round today.

I seriously think this product saved my cat's life. He is a 16 year old with kidney issues. Last spring he became severely anemic- i think probably because of the prescription kidney diet the vet recommended. He reached a point where he had zero appetite and just laid in his bed all day. We started him on Elura for appetite, and Varenzin to address the anemia. Both worked wonderfully, and within a week he was eating normally. By the end of a month, he had energy and was back to his old self. Another really wonderful thing about Varenzin is that whatever they put in it, the flavor is irresistible. I was worried about having to dose him, but after a couple of days, I realized I could just put the dose in a small dish, and he would eagerly lick it up. All praise to the magician, scientists that work for this company!

Very Anemic 16 yr old Cat

This has helped bring my cat’s hemoglobin values up, from 6.7 to over 8 in one week! It has not made him vomit either. So far, it’s doing what it is supposed to

This has helped bring my cat’s hemoglobin values up, from 6.7 to over 8 in one week! It has not made him vomit either. So far, it’s doing what it is supposed to. I heard it can cause blood clots due to an increase of red blood cell production, talk to your vet about getting your furbaby on a blood thinner while taking this product to reduce blood clot risks.

Good results, bad everything else

My 17 year old cat was on this for just shy of two weeks. In those two weeks, he stopped eating his kidney diet, but was gaining weight! However, right before day 14, he got really sick and was leaking poop for hours, was incredibly weak, lethargic and unable to move much. Got him into the vet, all his kidney levels, labs, blood work etc were good and stable but he lost a full pound in under a week. Had to get him antibiotics, fiber supplements and now he won’t eat any of the food he was eating a week ago. He’s still recovering but his behavior is very different. He doesn’t want to cuddle much. He stopped sleeping in bed with me. He refuses to sleep in his favorite cat bed. He however is no longer anemic. He went from 26 to 36. But at what cost? I thought he was dying and I’m still unsure if he will ever fully recover. He’s definitely not his usual self any longer.

Cannot recommend this medication enough. It saved our senior cats life. He was extremely anemic from CKD & this improved his numbers almost immediately. We are so grateful for this med cause the only alternative was these shots from our vet which were very pricey after just spending a lot on a long hospital day when he experienced a crash from his kidney disease.

We are now on our 4th or 5th round & his blood work continues to be stable. Percy waits for his medicine every morning. During the 7 day break where he doesn't get it, I have to pretend to give it to him to keep the routine going. He's such a a smart kitty. I try follow his lead to keep him happy.
