Weruva Wx Phos Focused

The Weruva Wx formula has low levels of phosphorous without sacrificing protein content or quality. It offers highly bioavailable proteins for optimal digestion and good amino acid absorption to help maintain muscle mass.

Why Seek Lower Phosphorous Formulas?

As kidney health declines, the kidneys filter blood less efficiently, and phosphorous may enter the blood stream, creating new health issues. A diet with lower phosphorous, although it will not cure kidney issues, can help minimize these other ailments.

Weruva’s Lowest Phosphorous Foods

This low-phosphorous food is all natural and free of ingredients like powdered cellulose, fillers and carbohydrates that can superficially lower phosphorous percentages. Weruva Wx contains up to 50% less phosphorus than AAFCO’s minimum levels.

No Protein Sacrifice

Cats are obligate carnivores who need meat to thrive. Because maintaining muscle mass is crucial for cats with kidney issues, Weruva makes sure their Wx formula includes plenty of high-quality protein.

About Weruva

Weruva is a family company, wholly owned and operated by pet parents David and Stacie Forman since 2006. They originally developed Weruva, a luxurious natural pet food, for their three rescued cats: Webster, Rudi, and Vanessa.

Questions & Answers

10 Customer Questions

Your description of this food states "This food is not complete and balanced and should not be fed as the only meal to cats on an everyday basis", what's missing ? Thank you

Answer by ChewyJul 25, 2023
The WX flavors are designed formulas with such low phosphorus levels that they are not considered complete and balanced (per AAFCO standards). Essentially, the phosphorus is too low and this includes formulas that are more than 20% less than AAFCO minimum standards for phosphorus. All other nutrients in this recipe meet the AAFCO requirements.

Can you also provide the percentage of phosphorus on a dry matter basis?

Answer by ChewyNov 08, 2022
This recipe has a phosphorus content of 0.078% on an as-fed basis or 0.42% on a dry matter basis.

What is the protein and sodium content on a dry matter basis?

Answer by ChewyDec 11, 2022
This recipe contains 0.08% (0.45% dry matter) Sodium and 11.27% (61.60% dry matter) Protein all on an as fed basis.

What is the magnesium content and the calcium to phosphorous ratio?

Answer by ChewyJul 11, 2023
This recipe contains approximately 0.01% Magnesium on an as-fed basis, or 0.06% Magnesium on a dry matter basis. Weruva strives for a 1:1 ratio of phosphorous to calcium in all of their formulas.

My Coco has been diagnosed with early-stage Kidney disease. I cannot afford to buy the prescription food all the time. I usually purchase the puree one. I thought I would try the chicken with gravy, but unfortunately, my Coco cannot eat the food very well because she has no teeth. The chicken is too stringy for her. I wish Weruva would chop up the chicken more. I like to give her a variety. I plan to cut up the chicken a little more so she can hopefully eat it. It is a good product. The puree is a little too gel-like, but I mush it up.

Cats appreciate that this food is closest to a home cooked meal! They love this one and the chicken and tilapia and gravy! It didn't take long to adjust to it from their previous food either! one great thing I noticed too is their bowe movements are less frequent and smaller which means this food has very little fillers and is packed with better protein sources so that is great! I've paired this up with forza10 urinary and it is working good so far.

This is my girls favorite food right now with her CKD, she's 17. I add extra water for more fluids and she loves it. I leave it out for her to eat for 2 hrs max, but she often finishes it before then. On good days she does eat all the meat too!

Good quality, but need to try a different flavor/formula.

I'm having to audition foods/flavors for my cats as 2 of them were recently diagnosed with CKD, and the others are also seniors and could benefit from a senior-appropriate

I'm having to audition foods/flavors for my cats as 2 of them were recently diagnosed with CKD, and the others are also seniors and could benefit from a senior-appropriate diet. Sadly, this flavor doesn't seem to be to their liking - one cat will eat a little, but the others turn their noses up at it.

High quality food that my cat wouldn't touch. :(

My cat has early stage kidney disease so upon advice I ordered a case of this food. I know it's a quality food, I did my research prior. It looked like something she would love when I opened the first can, lots of chicken shreds and lots of gravy. Alas, she took 2 licks of the gravy and that was the end of that, she has refused to even taste the gravy since. I'll give the remaining 10 cans to a friend that does cat rescue - so all is not lost. :) Back to the drawing board for my finicky cat though. ;)

Only one of three cats will eat this, and only if nothing else is available to eat. Need low phosphorus food, but haven't had much success with this brand.

I was looking for a new food for my 15 year old kitten (she has s3 kidney disease & GI issues) when I tried out one of the gravy cans. She had been extra picky about her food for weeks and was refusing everything. But this? I don’t know what y'all put in there, but she can’t get enough! She’s been begging me for up to 6 cans A DAY. And I’m happy to provide it for her. I am just so grateful that she’s eating. Thank you for a great product! You’re making my baby’s final years a little bit better-i am grateful
