About Weruva Wx

Weruva Wx Phos Focused

This low-phosphorous food is all natural and free of ingredients like powdered cellulose, fillers and carbohydrates that can superficially lower phosphorous percentages. Weruva Wx contains up to 50% less phosphorus than AAFCO’s minimum levels.

Weruva’s Lowest Phosphorous Foods

The Weruva Wx formula has low levels of phosphorous without sacrificing protein content or quality. It offers highly bioavailable proteins for optimal digestion and good amino acid absorption to help maintain muscle mass.

Why Seek Lower Phosphorous Formulas?

As kidney health declines, the kidneys may no longer filter blood efficiently, and phosphorous may enter the blood stream. This can make cats feel unwell, become lethargic or experience appetite loss. The situation can become a vicious cycle as excess phosphorous in the blood further impairs the kidneys. A diet with lower phosphorous, although it will not cure kidney issues, can help minimize these other ailments.

No Protein Sacrifice

Cats are obligate carnivores who need meat to thrive. Meat is rich in high-quality protein, which helps maintain healthy muscle mass. Although cats with kidney issues may benefit from diets with lower levels of phosphorous, they still need adequate levels of protein. Because maintaining muscle mass is crucial for cats with kidney issues, Weruva makes sure their Wx formula includes plenty of protein.

About Weruva

Weruva is a family company, wholly owned and operated by pet parents David and Stacie Forman. They originally developed Weruva, a luxurious natural pet food, for their three rescued cats: Webster, Rudi and Vanessa. After searching for the best cat food under the sun to feed them, they realized the best wasn’t good enough and developed these fantastic recipes using quality sourced ingredients.

Delish - Mostly

Weruva is high quality food so it was easy to get her to try it. She's a cat, though, so she didn't stay on it. I can pepper it in but I have to continue giving her old brand also. Not ideal for a cat with kidney issues but at 18 she's allowed to have an opinion on her diet, I suppose. :)

Wonderful

So glad I found this--I couldn't read the ingredients in the "prescription diet" foods and believe they were right for my cat with CKD. I read the ingredients in the Weruva low phosphate foods and said YES! No problem with the transition at all. I opened the can, fixed her bowl with Weruva alone, and my cat ate with pleasure.

FABULOUS FOOD!

One of our cats is in relatively early stages of renal failure. The KD diet is not at all tasty and did not go over well, so I looked for a low phosphorous food, and this is it! Both of the cats love it so much that there's barely even a crumb left in their bowls. We're thrilled and grateful to have found this.

my cat will actually eat this.

My almost 18 year old CKD kitty is fabulously picky, but actually likes this one pretty well. I keep it in rotation with the other 2 kinds of the Wx puree (she has eaten the shreds style but seems to prefer this one).

didn't work out...

my animals like puree for a treat so I thought that a food that was in puree form would be right up their alley but no such luck...

Cats Say No Thanks

Bought this in an attempt to get a sick cat to eat. She didn’t like it so I tried giving some to the other 5 healthy cats. Everyone at my house said, “no thanks mom”. I donated it to my local shelter.

Great food!

My cat hates any kidney care food but he likes this one! I'm just praying he continues to like it ( if you know what I mean!)

Too much fish

My cats like this okay and I can usually coax them into eating it when I put some kind of topper or treat on top. I love that weruva has made a low phosphorus food that I don't need a prescription for. I really, really wish that weruva would stop putting fish in almost every food they make. Fish is not really good for cats, especially not on a daily basis. They literally put tuna or tilapia in almost every food they make. Contrary to popular belief, not all cats like fish. All 3 of mine will eat sardines once a week and the occasional salmon puree food, but that's it. They end up leaving most foods that contain tuna in the bowl. I'm grateful for toppers to put on foods. If weruva is listening.....please make foods with various proteins...not just chicken and fish

Top 1000 Contibutor

I wish they loved it, but they do not.

I love Weruva brand. They offer high quality food that my babies normally love. With two senior kitties with kidney disease, I was stoked they were offering a new Low Phosphorous line of food. We tried all the fish flavor ones. To my surprise and dismay, they barely licked at it and didn't want to eat any of it. So disappointed. I'm sure this is great food since that is on par for the brand, but my cats do not care for this food line...unfortunately.

Good alternative for picky cat

I bought this item in desperation for my 15 year old calico who recently was dx with renal disease. She absolutely refuses to eat the RX wet food no matter how slow I try to incorporate it or what brand/flavor I buy. She eats the Rx dry food which is a blessing but hydration is so important that I wanted to find a wet food she will actually eat. Janet will only eat fish flavor food. Wx tuna fits the bill. My vet said its most important that she eats and keeps her weight up so for now this is working for us. If you have a picky cat with renal failure I feel your pain! Don't give up!
