There's a lot to consider when figuring out the best bedding setup for your hedgehog. Naturally, as pet parents, we want the best for our spiny friends. Here are some considerations to remember when creating the perfect bed for your hedgehog:
Shop Chewy's impressive variety of hedgehog bedding. Bedding needs to be replaced regularly, so why not use Autoship to set up automatic delivery on your schedule? Consult with your vet if you have questions or concerns.
Several choices of hedgehog bedding are available. Bedding types include recycled paper pellets, shredded paper, hay, fleece, aspen shavings, and more. The bedding should be 3–4 inches deep at least, because hedgehogs are natural burrowers and nesters.
The bottom of a hedgehog's cage should be covered in bedding, ideally something they can burrow into. You can use recycled paper pellets, fleece, aspen shavings, and shredded paper. It's advised to avoid corncob, dusty bedding, or bedding that could poke their eyes.
Wood shaving can be safe for hedgehog bedding, namely aspen shavings. Since wood is not as absorbent as other bedding varieties, you may have to change out your hedgehog's cage more frequently.
Hedgehog bedding should be changed weekly, if not more. This includes spot cleaning daily and a thorough cage cleaning to remove things like feces, leftover food, and wet bedding. Their bedding should be 3–4 inches thick or more since hedgehogs are natural burrowers and nesters.
