About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Does this require a prescription?
Answer by ChewyNov 23, 2022
This recipe requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

Is this food made in the USA?
Answer by ChewyNov 11, 2022
This recipe is made in the USA. Many of Blue Buffalo's ingredients, such as most grains and meats, like chicken, beef and turkey come from the United States. Lamb and venison can be free range from the United States or New Zealand. Rabbit is sourced from Europe, and trout can come from the United States or Canada. Where possible Blue's suppliers are instructed to source their ingredients from the United States. Where the ingredients are not readily available in the Unites States, such as many vitamins and minerals, their suppliers will only work with reliable foreign companies, and subject all ingredients to rigorous quality testing.

Answer by ChewyMay 17, 2022

Not what I expected

Neither cat wanted anything to do with this food. It's smells awful, looks worse. I realize for hydrolyzed protein there's not a lot of options. Still trying to figure out a solution for my cats tummy trouble.

Dense Block of Putty

We try to mix this with the dry so they will eat it. Somewhat unsuccessful. One cat will eat with the dry food of the same brand on top but the other cat barely touches it. I add water to help the consistency but it’s still not great. I want to keep the cats on wet food if possible because they’re fully indoor and I was always told wet food is always better than dry but at this point we may just have to go full dry food. Will most likely not buy again.

Absolutely won’t eat this food

Mira has food sensitivities causing bowel issues. I have tried everything to get her to eat this food. She will go hungry rather than eat it. I definitely do not recommend the wet variety of this prescription canned food. Blue brand needs to fix this canned food. I gave it one star because there is no option to not mark this rating choice. Mira does eat the kibble. She has greatly improved health wise on the kibble. I know my vet is on the right track!

texture was not appealing

My cats did not even try this food. I added warm goat's milk and also tried warm water, sprinkled parmesan cheese and liver powder, but nothing could entice them to try it.

Vets!!! do not rx this garbage.

I've been feeding Charlie the hills z/d wet and the purina hyrolized dry. And he eats it. Not his preferred menu but tough. This has the same consistency that the z/d does but that's where it ends. He took a few sniffs, licked it a teeny tiny bit and walked away. Waste of a lot of $$$. Blue Buffalo you should be ashamed of this product. These poor kitties & their humans are having a hard enough time with food allergies and the symptoms of it. Hills z/d isn't much better but at least he will eat it.

Cats will not eat

My two cats are on Royal Cannin HP dry and wet food. The wet food is not available so the vet suggested this wet food. It smells terrible and is a solid mass in the can. I add water to the product so one cat will eat a little. The other cat just smells and walks away. I hope Royal Cannin fixes their problems soon.

Waste of $$

My little guy was prescribed this wet hydrolyzed option, he’s finicky as it is but he won’t even lick this food. Like all other reviews, the consistency is very rubbery, even after mashing it and adding a little omega 3 oil on it did not make a difference. This food is yuck central!

Not for every cat

One of my cats must eat a hydrolyzed protein (H.P.) diet to prevent gut distress and allergies that cause hot spots and itching. He will eat the H.P. kibble but refuses to eat the canned food. The consistency is like thick putty. . . I don't know if it is the taste or texture of the H.P. wet food (I've tried Blue Buffalo and Royal Canin brands) but he won't touch it. This is not a negative review of this product; I had to give it a rating in order to submit. This is just a note on my personal experience.

Kitty not Crazy about it

My kittY has been eating the RC prescription wet food venison for years. They’ve pretty much stopped producing it so I’ve spent the last 3 months trying to find prescription wet food for a finicky cat with IBDS. She liked this at first (it’s how they always do) and now she’s seems to be losing interest slowly. I hope it’s temporary. Thank goodness for Chewy’s return policy. It has been a nightmare trying to find speciality food for the last 2 years.

This stuff must be REALLY icky

The vet put our orange boy on a strict hydrolized diet for a lengthy period of time (6 months minimum), so we've tried all the hydrolized foods we can find. Our guy loves his web food, and there are only two canned foods available right now—this one and Hill's z/d. He didn't care much for the Hill's, giving it a lick or three, but not really eating it. He wouldn't even consider eating this one. Not at all. Tried several times. The last time I offered him this, I put a little of this and little of the Hill's in the same bowl with space between them. He ate all of the Hill's and none of this. That said a lot! LOL We'll be donating this.
