How is Bravecto different from other chewable or topical flea and tick treatments?
Bravecto is the only flea and tick treatment to last 12 weeks* with one convenient chew or topical dose. That means nearly 3X longer lasting protection than common monthly treatments. The long-lasting efficacy breaks the flea life cycle and drives fleas into extinction with one dose. And, Bravecto kills ticks faster, killing 100% of attached ticks in 12 hours – whereas other treatments can take over 48 hours.
Why should I treat my cat for fleas and ticks if it never goes outside?
Your cat doesn't need to go outside to be at risk for fleas and ticks. Cats can be exposed to fleas and ticks from dogs within the household. However, even cats without dog siblings can be at risk. You can carry fleas inside on your clothes and shoes – and the larvae and pupae can hide within your home for weeks before hopping on your cat. If you live in an apartment complex, fleas can move from one apartment to the next. And, certain ticks are now known to survive indoors throughout their lifecycles, so they can come in with you from outside, and hang around to attach to your pet.
How does Bravecto kill fleas and ticks
After you give your pet Bravecto, it quickly reaches tissue fluids just under your dog's or cat's skin. When fleas and ticks feed, they ingest Bravecto and die. Bravecto Chew for Dogs starts killing fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) within 2 hours and kills ticks (Ixodes ricinus) within 12 hours. Bravecto Chew for Dogs kills fleas, prevents flea infestations, and kills ticks (black-legged tick, American dog tick, and brown dog tick) for 12 weeks. Bravecto Chew for Dogs also kills lone star ticks for 8 weeks. Bravecto Topical Solution for Cats kills 100% of fleas within 8 hours. Apply Bravecto Topical Solution for Cats to the base of the skull for full-body protection for 12 weeks. Bravecto Topical Solution for Cats kills fleas, prevents flea infestations, and kills ticks (black-legged tick) for 12 weeks. Bravecto Topical Solution for Cats also kills American dog ticks for 8 weeks.
Do dogs readily eat the Bravecto chew?
In a US field study where dogs were treated at home, over 93% of dogs ate the chew voluntarily - either by itself or with food.
How safe is Bravecto Chew for Dogs and Bravecto Chew for Cats?
Bravecto has a wide margin of safety in dogs who weigh at least 4.4 lbs. and cats who weigh at least 2.6 lbs. It is also approved for puppies and kittens aged 6 months or older.
Bravecto Chew for Dogs is approved for use in breeding, pregnant, and lactating dogs.
My dog is taking some medications for another condition as well right now. Is it safe to give him/her Bravecto?
There are no problems reported in field trials in dogs and cats that received Bravecto alongside other commonly used medicines. However, your veterinarian is your pet's health care expert, so it is always best to discuss all of your pet's treatments with them, whether prescription or over-the-counter supplements.
Does water, grooming or hair length have an effect on how Bravecto chew works?
Immediately bathing, shampooing, or swimming should not affect how well Bravecto Chew works, as it is not a topical treatment. Coat length and grooming or brushing also have no impact on how well it works.
Do Bravecto Chews for Dogs Tablets contain wheat or gluten?
No.
Will Bravecto kill ticks and fleas that are already on my dog or cat?
Yes.
Is Bravecto Chew for Dogs approved for use in breeding/pregnant/lactating dogs?
Yes. Bravecto is approved for use in breeding, pregnant, and lactating dogs.
Can the Bravecto Chew be crumbled?
The product inserts states that Bravecto should be administered orally as a single dose. In the case that a chew is broken or crumbles, it should be assured that the dog still receives the whole dose.
Can the Bravecto Chew be broken up and given with food?
Bravecto Chew for Dogs should be given with food. If a chew is broken, it should be assured that the dog still receives the whole dose.
Is there a Bravecto Chew for Cats?
Not at this time.
How do I apply the Bravecto Topical to my cat?
Apply the dose to one spot on the skin on the back of the neck (push back fur if necessary). This will provide full body protection for 12 weeks.
Can Bravecto be used in Collies?
In a well-controlled laboratory study, Bravecto was shown to be safe in Collies known to be MDR-1 gene-deficient. Collies with the defect were administered 3 times the deliverable dose and had no adverse events.
What happens if the dog vomits after taking the Bravecto Chew?
If vomiting occurs, check with your veterinarian to decide whether to re-dose or not; however, if an otherwise healthy dog vomits within 3 hours of receiving Bravecto, it is recommended that the dog be re-dosed. To help ensure that the dog does not vomit again, it is suggested to wait 24 hours until re-dosing.
If 4 or more hours have passed before the vomiting occurs, it is likely that the medication has been absorbed and the dog is protected. If the vomiting repeats again, do not give a third chew, and call your veterinarian.
If you suspect that a side effect has taken place as a result of giving the dog Bravecto, please report it to Merck Technical Services at 1-800-224-5318, and follow any advice that they provide.
A dog received hid dose earlier than the 12 weeks. Is that okay?
It is always best to discuss your pets' medical treatment with your veterinarian. However, Bravecto has a high margin of safety. In safety studies, Bravecto was tested in healthy dogs and puppies at up to 5X the recommended dose at 8-week intervals for 3 treatments. Therefore, no adverse effects are expected if dogs are inadvertently treated twice with the recommended dose within 12 weeks, but please contact your veterinarian.
Is Bravecto recommended by veterinarians?
Yes. Bravecto Chew for Dogs is vet recommended for puppies and dogs 6 months of age or older who weigh at least 4.4. lbs and Bravecto Topical for Cats is vet recommended for kittens and cats 6 months of age or older who weigh at least 2.6 lbs.

Doesn't work
By April on Feb 13, 2021
As I wrote in the review for the dog version, this seemed to work the first time we used it and now it doesn't. Two weeks after applying and both the cat and dog have fleas.

Great for fleas
By sls642 on Nov 16, 2020
This is an extremely effective product for fleas. Use it with Capstar and foggers if you have a flea infestation in your house. I especially want to commend Chewy for getting this med to me so quickly. They were amazing. Can't thank them enough. Couldn't locate it anywhere in my city so was forced to look online. Chewy had it but I was concerned about how long it could take to receive given the post office slow down I was experiencing. I don't think it was sent through the USPS so it was delivered in a few days. Just delighted. I am now a very happy Chewy fan.

Greasy and Irritating
By Wondering on Oct 31, 2020
I was excited to get this product and followed the exact instructions. It has been three days since application - my cats entire neck going down between his shoulders is still greasy and he keeps itching. I will try Revolution Plus next. Won’t buy this again.

Cat hates topicals...
By CDMN on Nov 1, 2020
My cat hates having flea and tick meds applied, so this is great! Only reapplied every 12 weeks, so my cat hates me less often. As a vet tech, I love the efficacy of Bravecto, and the fact that it lasts so much longer than comparable products on the market.
