The Lafeber Company was built by a father-son team of veterinarians with a shared love of animals and a special passion for birds. Dr. T.J. Lafeber developed the very first commercial bird food pellet in the back room of his veterinary clinic in the early 1970s after recognizing that the majority of the birds he was treating were suffering from severe malnutrition. Today, their recipes continue to be developed by his son, Dr. Ted Lafeber III, along with the assistance of top veterinarians and nutritionists. Their manufacturing facility has always been located on the Lafeber family farm in Cornell, Illinois, where all of their products are mixed, formulated and packaged under one roof. Staying true to their motto—caring and working for the health of animals—they have expanded their assortment over the years to include rabbit and guinea pig products, in addition to developing veterinary resources that offer exotic animal veterinarians an every-growing library of vet-written articles, client education materials and videos. They are also deeply committed to conserving wild bird and animal populations by supporting efforts that nourish and protect these animals and their habitats both near and far.
