I have one very picky cat and one who is basically a garbage disposal. Needless to say, getting the picky one to eat a new food after she went off the old one is a hair pulling experience. Surprisingly, she has been eating this one consistently even though she'll usually turn up her nose at anything that doesn't contain tuna. We've gone through 1 case so far, both cats still enjoying it and no digestive problems so far. Food smells pleasant, cans easy to open and easy clean-up. Happy family all around!
I wanted to like this food as it was a cheaper option to what I was feeding my two senior cats but unfortunately it gave them both diarrhea. The only ingredient that is significantly different from their other food is the agar agar binding agent that is used in this food. After reading about it, some cats can be sensitive to this specific gum. Will be returning and sticking to their slightly more expensive food.
As a 12-oz can of food, it is a bit finicky to feed to your cat, but you probably knew that going in. As a food for your cat, it is affordable + healthy. That's a pretty good ingredients list, on par with Fancy Feast, and it seems tasty enough to my cat.
I used to buy Dave's chicken and turkey varieties from a local petfood store. I have multiple cats and thought the 12 oz cans would be easier, and, initially, thought the ingredients were good. But after a 4th cat developed hyperthyroidism (3 dead), I went online to try to find out what was causing this terrible trend. And I found that sometime in 2016 the AAFCO directed petfood companies to include selenium in their petfoods, HOWEVER, they did not specify which source of selenium to be used. And most petfood companies opted to use a toxic form called sodium selenite. (? I guess it is the cheapest?) Have you ever cared for a cat with hyperthyroidism? It is a nightmare. Their metabolism rages and they reduce down to skin and bones, they have terrible diahrrea, so then you have to worry about hydration, and their fur gets sticky and matted. There is no real cure. If there is a thyroid tumor, you can opt for surgery-if your cat is healthy enough for surgery. I read some articles that say that radioactive iodine treatment is safe, and some that say not. Methimazole thyroid med does not cure the problem, it just manages it. However methimazole can also worsen the diahrrea. If you love your cats and you don't want to have to worry about all of that, then do the easiest thing and simply don't give your cats any food with sodium selenite.
My cats don't like it, but since I got a case of it, they are going to get it anyway. that's cats for you. My outdoor ferals eat it last, but they eat it. The indoor cats re spoiled and picky, most of them leave it in their dishes. I will continue to offer it to them until they have consumed it all
It’s got good ingredients on the label, but I keep finding bits of what looks like black pebbles in it.
My cats love this food. Has quality ingredients so don't have to worry about feeding them junk.
I'd put less stars but one cat is able to eat it ok. One cat wouldn't rush to the bowl to eat the food and would eventually eat it later. The last two times I've given in, I've found vomit around the house. They're both fine with the turkey cans though.
My senior cat loved it, very mushy texture and smells really chickeny. My young cat didn’t care for it, she isn’t picky but maybe it’s too healthy for her lol
I have been feeding my 5 cats this food for almost a year now and they love it! One of my cats suffers from IBD and this food has worked the best for us.
