what does NF MEAN? STAND FOR? KIDNEY FUNCTION CAT FOOD Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function

Answer by ChewyApr 17, 2018
The NF stands for Renal Function.

What's the difference between early care and advanced care?

Answer by ChewyMay 08, 2018
Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Advanced Care has been specifically formulated to minimize the sign of kidney failure and help slow the progression of the disease. Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Early Care is specially formulated to support feline kidney health.

0.18% is the minimum phosphorus! What is the MAX phosphorus of this food? And what is " artificial and natural flavors" in the ingredients list mean? Is that sugar? Don't mean to be a pest! Thank you for your time & consideration!

Answer by ChewyOct 04, 2018
Purina does not test for max phosphorous levels, but states that the total phosphorus in the NF Kidney Function Advanced Care canned formula, which is more accurate than minimums or maximums, is .39% on a dry matter basis. A flavor is any ingredient whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional. A natural flavor is one that's derived from a plant or animal while an artificial flavor is generated from scratch.

What is the phosphorous, sodium, carbohydrate and protein content?

Answer by ChewyAug 02, 2019
This recipe, on a dry matter basis, has a protein content of 26.08%, a phosphorus content of 0.39%, a sodium content of 0.43%, and a carbohydrate content of 32.6%. As fed, the protein content is 6.0%, the phosphorus content is 0.12%, the sodium content is 0.1%, and the carbohydrate content is 7.5%.

My senior cat has early kidney disease. She likes this advanced care food, but she has lost significant amount of weight since being on it. I can't be sure it's the food; might be a digestive issue. She will eat some of the Early Care version, but doesn't like it as well. It must taste different, but it has more protein.

She didn’t like the taste. When I mixed it with other food she would eat a small amounts of it. The consistency was rather dry and I mixed hydra care (which she really likes) with it but again, she only ate a small amount. I stopped putting it in front of her after 2 cans. How do I return the remainder of the case?

I keep this one in rotation. I don't love the huge can size as it takes my boy longer to finish one can than it stays fresh and palatable for him so I always end up dumping remainders. I'm sure some cats love it. They're all different.

My cats were on a more expensive, less appealing kidney formula, so I switched them to NF, which they seemed to enjoy more. However, one of my cats who has a sensitive stomach began vomiting between meals (on an empty stomach). It would come and go and at first I didn't connect it with the food. But then I started having serious quality control issues with this food One case arrived with all the food in the cans completely shrunken and brown. Another arrived liquidy and when I weighed the cans they were much lighter than the typical cans, so they clearly had a problem. And then finally I received a case where each can was partially soft food and partially so hard that I literally had to cut it with a knife. I contacted Purina the first two times. The customer service representatives were not particularly concerned or interested or helpful. These were not little problems with the food-- they are problems that really made me my confidence in this company and this food. Combined with my realization that my cat's vomiting might be caused by the food, I switched them off of NF. It's more expensive, but worth every penny: : I no longer have the quality control issues that I was having with the NF, and my cat has stopped vomiting. He's so much more playful and happy-- I didn't realize how much he was suffering on this food. I'm so disappointed that Purina was so unresponsive. I did press them with the second situation and they they finally said they should probably receive some cans to check it out either. I judge companies in part by their customer service, not just their products, and this is one I would not recommend.

Not his jam.

My 28 lb kitty who has CKD loves just about every food he’s ever tried but did not care for this. Before Purina, he was eating and loving Hill’s but had loose stools

Our cat likes this food (special diet for kidney issues). However constancy is really too soft and almost mushy. Since it is a kidney diet food, I believe it has less protein causing my cat to want more to feel fuller (many kidney diets are lower in protein).
