Homemade Macarons for Dogs

Valentine’s Day is a time to let your favorite friends and family members know just how much they mean to you. And there’s no excuse to leave your dog out of the fun! This year, you can upgrade your pup’s Valentine’s Day with a DIY dog treat imitating French macarons.

Not to be confused with coconut macaroons, French macarons are the delicate and delicious dessert that sandwiches a filling between two fluffy meringue cookies. They’ve had a resurgence of popularity in recent years, and now your dog can get in on the trend with this DIY dog treat version. We’ve swapped out unhealthy ingredients, like powdered sugar, and replaced them with dog-friendly chicken broth and peanut butter.

Note: Make sure that the peanut butter you use does not contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs.

You already know that the way to your dog’s heart is through their stomach. So, this Valentine’s Day, say it with dog treats. Here’s how to whip up a batch of homemade French macaron treats for your pup.

Spread about ½ tsp peanut butter on the flat side of one biscuit, then sandwich it together with the flat side of another biscuit. Repeat with the rest of the biscuits.

Some natural peanut butters can have a liquid consistency. If necessary, mix a few tsp of flour into the peanut butter to stiffen. (We used 2 tsp.)
