Turmeric and Coconut Dog Treat Recipe

Usually my Sunday afternoons are spent making dog treats from scratch. On one particular weekend, I felt compelled to come up with a tasty dog treat recipe that uses some unique ingredients and tastes delicious. Of course, these simple treats are also healthy for dogs.
Desiccated coconut has a light texture, which is perfect for baking. It has a rich nuttiness and it tastes juicy when your dog bites into the treats.
The turmeric plant—a member of the ginger family—originates in Southeast Asia. It’s an ingredient you might be familiar with in curry dishes. But aside from being food flavouring, many believe that turmeric also has health benefits for our dogs.
These treats are also gluten free, which is perfect for a dog with gluten sensitivities.
Ingredients

- 1 ¾ cup garbanzo bean flour
- 1 cup desiccated coconut
- 2 tbsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- ¾ cup boiled and mashed pumpkin or sweet potato
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C.
- Combine all the ingredients and form a dough. If the dough is a bit sticky to handle add more flour.
3. Roll dough into a 3mm thick rectangle.
4. Using a wheel pastry cutter, pizza wheel, or sharp knife, score dough into small bite-sized squares.
5. Place on a baking sheet and bake for approximately 15 minutes or until cooked through and darker in colour.
6. Turn the oven off and allow the treats to cool inside the oven completely before removing.
7. Once treats are cool. Break them into square pieces.
