I have cats that do not want to come in the house and since we live in a climate with cool falls and cold winters, I want to be sure they’re safe and snug! I purchased this for our front porch for our little Bella. She likes to be low to the ground and insists on being on the porch instead of in one of the houses in the barn. It was important to me that her house checked some specific boxes. These are the pluses: 1) The window is on the left side so it’s going to keep the wind from blowing directly into the house, and there’s an escape door on the opposite side. These are going to help keep her warm when it’s cold. 2) The front “porch” is going to keep out rain and snow. Even though her last house was on our covered porch, the inside of her house would still get wet. 3) The floors are sunken, which is important when using self-heating pads or heated pads that are plugged into an outlet. I had to prop her door open in her last house because her door and flaps were getting stuck because the pads were getting in the way. 4) It was very easy to put together but I had to provide my own tools, which is fine because it keeps the price down. Here are the negatives: 1) The walls aren’t as thick as the description makes them sound. The house isn’t going to fall apart or anything but I did crack a piece a little bit when putting it together. 2) There are some gaps that I’ll have to fill in because of our climate but if you live where it’s warm it’s not going to be an issue because you’ll want those few gaps to prevent mold growth. 3) The front door with the flaps is quite large. It’s an issue that can easily be fixed if you need your opening to be smaller. 4) There’s no hole for cords if your pet needs a heated pad. One can be drilled but the wood is very fragile when it comes to that. I’m going to be adding some insulation and drill a hole for a plug. I have a lot of cat houses and this house is what I expected it to be. The price was right for what I received and I’m going to order at least one more.
