Can the 25lbs container fit two 6lbs bag of cat food side by side?

Answer by ALISAJun 07, 2025
Yes, I believe it would be fairly easy to fit two 6 lb bags of cat food side by side in the 25# container. The round opening at the top is 9" in diameter and the straight/vertical sides on the container are 11" tall (before it tapers toward the opening). I didn't have 6# bags of cat food to put inside mine to test this for you, but I did have Costco size bags of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. Each weighs 13.5 lbs and two fit inside the 25# container without a problem.

Is this ant resistant?

Answer by ChewyOct 12, 2022
Vittles Vaults are pest proof, meaning insects such as ants (a very common problem). Rats can chew through metal if they have reason to think there is food to be had. The manufacturer does not guarantee their product against mice, rats, raccoons, possums, squirrels, bears, etc. However, they do make it difficult for these pest to chew through the rounded angle corners. It's tough for them to get their mouths around these corners. We suggest that if you have a problem, place a piece of wood (13" X 13") over the top, or store the Vittles Vault upside down. Customers have also had success covering their container with a milk crate or putting a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil on the container to act as a natural repellent.

Can raccoons tear into these containers?

Answer by ChewyJun 08, 2018
There isn't a guarantee that this container can be held up against mice, rats, raccoons, possums, squirrels, bears, etc. Most animals will chew through the plastic if they have reason to think there is food to be had. However, we do make it difficult for these pest to chew through the rounded angle corners. It's tough for them to get their mouths around these corners. We suggest that if you have a problem, place a piece of wood (13 inch x 13 inch) over the top, or store the Vittles Vault upside down. Answer by ChewyMay 06, 2022

As you can see from the picture I emptied a 30lbs bag of food into this 35lb container. I don't quite see 35lbs of this particular brand of kibble fitting into the vault, but I'm also aware that weight does not equal mass. New bag, empty container. So while it works for me, if there is a concern that the food won't fit I'd size up. Makes me wonder what size kibble they're using to measure this but it's probably something closer to a grain of rice if they're able to fit 35lbs in here. TLDR: Good, but if you have larger sized kibble be aware you might not be able to fit your desired bag size into this vault.

I had high hopes that this would solve a few problems - food going stale in a bag and our dog helping himself to snacks. Other containers were easy for him to break into, but this one seemed to be the winner - until it wasn’t. The collar around the top that the lid screws into can be easily popped off if you’re a wise German shepherd that knows how to use your teeth for leverage. Unfortunately we will have to find another solution. This would work great for those who don’t have bigger dogs.

It’s a nice container. I thought it had a nice vault type lid in the picture, but it actually just has a plastic lid (like a peanut butter jar). The thing you see is the travel dish. It doesn’t stay on, which I think is a design flaw. They could have at least put a hole in the handle so you could use it to attach a carabiner & hook it to a bag or run yarn through it and tie it around the top to keep it together. Anyway, I didn’t buy it for travel or for the dish. It holds quite a bit.

I was looking for a way to store and partition large bags of cat food so was looking for a container with wheels. The ones with wheels didn't get very good reviews. I went with Gamma2 and thought if they were really heavy, I'd put them on a plant holder with wheels. I was pleasantly surprised that these are super EASY to slide over wood floors. No wheels necessary. Loving these containers. I use a giant coffee mug to scoop out the food.

Barely holds 18 lb bag of dog food

So far a decent dog food storage, except barely holds 18 lbs of dog food. After reading other reviews , I opted for a bigger size for my 18 lb bags of dog food

So far a decent dog food storage, except barely holds 18 lbs of dog food. After reading other reviews , I opted for a bigger size for my 18 lb bags of dog food. The size description is very inaccurate. This has been consistently reviewed as being inaccurate, yet is still advertised and sold as a 25 lb pet food holder. Not cool. I expected better from Chewy.

I was very disappointed. While I like the design and sturdiness of this container, I discovered by accident that it is not airtight. I was cleaning it and filled it with water. I shook it gently to clean and water was leaking out through the top. I thought maybe the top wasn’t on correctly. I tightened it as much as possible. This didn’t resolve. Water was still able to leak out. These containers are supposed to be airtight. This means water should also not be able to leak out because if water leaks out, that means air can leak out or in. That defeats the entire purpose of spending $25+ on these containers. Check for yourself.

This bin seems to be sturdy and sufficiently sized, but the lid is not well-fitted; it's a real pain to unscrew/screw back on. I thought it just needed to be "broken in" but I've been using it for almost a month for a foster dog that eats 3-4 meals per day (he was underweight and on a special dietary regimen) and it hasn't gotten any better. I ended up getting a different brand elsewhere that is much smoother so I will be returning this one.

I wish I would have had a full bag of dog food when I first ordered it... unfortunately its almost 60 days later i just attempted to pour a brand new 30lb bag of royal canin kibble into the drum and it would not all fit. I'm rather disappointed as the size suggests it should fit 35lbs.... my girl doesn't go through the food fast so the air tight seal was important to me. If I had know it at the time I would have just ordered a size up. Now I feel stuck with an undersized product... Good product otherwise. But definitely buy the bigger thank you think you need size.

I usually buy the biggest bag of kibble I can to save some money with 3 large dogs. I had to buy multiple smaller bags due to surgery and this container did the trick for me, plus my Lab can't get it open! I have a medium and a large container. I was able to access the food with my non-dominant hand as well. Win win for my pets!!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how the company measured for 35 pounds of food. I have a 35 pound bag of dog food and had about 3-4 pounds of dog food left in the bag after the container was so full. I even pushed the food down in a desperate attempt to find space. No go. Have to return.
