Questions & Answers

9 Customer Questions

have 2 cats that groom each other. are this collars safe for them?

Answer by ChewyMay 17, 2022
Since grooming is a natural instinct, all Hartz flea and tick products are formulated with this in mind. If used as directed, we would not expect a problem if your pet was to groom itself while using our product.

Does this work if you are dealing with an infestation?

Answer by ChewyMay 02, 2022
The collar will begin to kill fleas, ticks and flea eggs and larvae immediately. Its full protection against harder to kill ticks will be built up within a few days after being placed on the pet. For continuous flea and tick protection under normal conditions replace the collar every seven months. Under conditions where pets are exposed to severe flea and tick infestations, it may be necessary to replace the collar more frequently. Additionally, we recommend treating the home or environment in the case of an infestation.

Safe for kids to touch that cat with this on? Kids touch all over collar head neck there no way of preventing.

Answer by ChewyMay 09, 2022
Federal law requires that every product in the flea collar category must contain the statement "Caution: Do not let children play with this collar," or equivalent statements for similar products outside this category. Our Research Department advises that normal contact between you and the cat when wearing the collar should cause no harmful effects. However, they also advise that the collar is not a toy and should not be played with by a child. Regulations also require that products in this category contain a disposal statement regardless of the hazard they present. Again, the Hartz Flea & Tick Collar is completely safe to use as directed. We anticipate no hazard from incidental handling of the package. There is no measurable amount of product residue within the packet after removal of the collar. Yet, this instruction is necessary so that people develop the habit of careful disposal of empty household product packages, some of which may present some degree of hazard. When the pet has the Ultra Guard Flea & Tick Collar on, your pet can sleep with you or your family without any expected problems. Please note that the collar does contain pesticides and precautions should be taken if the pet sleeps by your face, as you would not want to be inhaling or have prolonged direct contact with the product. However if the pet normally sleeps at the foot of the bed, no problems should occur

What is the expiration date

Answer by ChewyApr 06, 2022
The UltraGuard products do not have an expiration date. They have a shelf life of 5 years. The exact shelf life of each product, can be obtained directly through the manufacturer.

I saw the mixed reviews and opted to try it anyways, but these are genuinely terrible. My poor cat has a ring of fur around his neck that's gone bald from this collar, as well as a massive bloody chemical burn where the "latch" part of the collar was smushed between him and the bed while he slept. I'm absolutely distraught from waking up this morning to find my whole apartment covered in blood. If you see the comments about chemicals burns, please dont assume- as I did- that it was a fluke and someone got unlucky. It could happen to your cat just as easily as it happened to mine.

Both kitties have done well with these collars. We take them off every night and only put them on when they go outside for brief periods of time. They were coming back inside with ticks, so we gave these a try. We do not leave these collars on 24x7. Our kitties are mainly indoors, but we let them out for supervised outside times.

The first 4 months of use, I didn't find any fleas on either cat. But after about 4 months, I started noticing one cat chewing and scratching, which got increasingly worse. I've switched to Seresto and there's already been an improvement.

My house and indoor cats got infested by a visiting kitty. So hard to get rid of fleas. Now my indoor kitties want to explore in the yard so I felt they needed flea protection and a collar to identify them as "loved". These did the trick.

Looks legit

Did not seem to be effective. Unfortunately only the REALLY expensive Seresta works, according to our vet.

Followed directions and used one per cat, did not decrease flea activity or kill any fleas. We’ve still been combing and finding fleas for weeks after putting the collars on. We did treat our house and do all the things you’re supposed to, in addition to the collars.

Bad rash and scabbing where leash was in place

Where the collar was placed, it created loss of fur, patches of scabbing and some blood in areas. Won’t be using this product again.

The UltraGuard ProMax Flea & Tick collar for cats is exactly what I was looking for. I like the design of the product itself, especially the breakaway feature, and smooth side for comfort on my cats neck. I also like that the product is safe even if cats ingest some whilst grooming one another. More importantly I appreciate they're affordable, long lasting and actually work! Great product!
