Questions & Answers

7 Customer Questions

have 2 cats that groom each other. are this collars safe for them?
Answer by ChewyMay 17, 2022
Since grooming is a natural instinct, all Hartz flea and tick products are formulated with this in mind. If used as directed, we would not expect a problem if your pet was to groom itself while using our product.

Safe for kids to touch that cat with this on? Kids touch all over collar head neck there no way of preventing.
Answer by ChewyMay 09, 2022
Federal law requires that every product in the flea collar category must contain the statement "Caution: Do not let children play with this collar," or equivalent statements for similar products outside this category. Our Research Department advises that normal contact between you and the cat when wearing the collar should cause no harmful effects. However, they also advise that the collar is not a toy and should not be played with by a child. Regulations also require that products in this category contain a disposal statement regardless of the hazard they present. Again, the Hartz Flea & Tick Collar is completely safe to use as directed. We anticipate no hazard from incidental handling of the package. There is no measurable amount of product residue within the packet after removal of the collar. Yet, this instruction is necessary so that people develop the habit of careful disposal of empty household product packages, some of which may present some degree of hazard. When the pet has the Ultra Guard Flea & Tick Collar on, your pet can sleep with you or your family without any expected problems. Please note that the collar does contain pesticides and precautions should be taken if the pet sleeps by your face, as you would not want to be inhaling or have prolonged direct contact with the product. However if the pet normally sleeps at the foot of the bed, no problems should occur

Does this work if you are dealing with an infestation?
Answer by ChewyMay 02, 2022
The collar will begin to kill fleas, ticks and flea eggs and larvae immediately. Its full protection against harder to kill ticks will be built up within a few days after being placed on the pet. For continuous flea and tick protection under normal conditions replace the collar every seven months. Under conditions where pets are exposed to severe flea and tick infestations, it may be necessary to replace the collar more frequently. Additionally, we recommend treating the home or environment in the case of an infestation.

What is the expiration date
Answer by ChewyApr 06, 2022
The UltraGuard products do not have an expiration date. They have a shelf life of 5 years. The exact shelf life of each product, can be obtained directly through the manufacturer.

never again

I have 4 cats and a dog that I got these for (obviously I used the dog one for the dog) but I wanted to try something new to try to save a little money. I totally agree with the “you get what you pay for” thing. But I got a negative amount of why I paid for. My pets have never had fleas so bad in their lives. Two of the cats had severe allergic reactions to the collars but all of them are covered in fleas and flea dirt. None of them had any fleas before I purchased these. I swear the fleas are attracted to the collar since the majority of the fleas i find are just having a party directly under it. The picture of the collar, you can see it’s riddled with blood. Not sure if the blood is from the reaction my cat had to it or if it is from the amount of fleas living under the collar. But either one is terrible.

I need another hand

This product seems great, and hopefully, I'll be able to get it on my cat. She's from a hoarding situation, and is apprehensive of new things. I don't want any trauma for her, so I have shelved this product for now. I'm slowly getting her used to being brushed, so at some point, I hope this slip this collar on her. I like all the features of the collar, it's pliable, fastens securely, color is helpful for visibility with the Maine Coons ruff.

Disappointed

Very disappointed. These collars do not work. Someone gave me a little barn kitten, he has fleas. Ordered these collars for all my cats and my kitten. First day, I thought they might work, they don’t. Not worth wasting you money on

Does not work.

I've had these on my three cats for a little while now and the fleas do not seem to care at all about the collar. I will not be purchasing them again. They also have a very strong fragrance to them.

Bad for tick prevention

The ticks have been extremely active in my area this year. I use Revolution as the main flea and tick medicine for my indoor / outdoor kitties, but it doesn’t repel the bugs. I ordered these collars for the repellent function. They haven’t worked on ticks at all unfortunately. My black and white kitty is an adventurous type and brings back “friends” almost every time he’s gone out. I find the ticks around his face, neck and chest the most, which is also closest to the collar location. My all black cat hasn’t had issues, but he mostly stays close to home. I have read though that ticks are particularly attracted to white color… My cats don’t mind the collars - the feel or smell of them. They are easy to put on and size to the cat’s neck - you loop the angled side through hoops and simply cut off the extra length. It stays in place as sized due to little grooves along the length of collar. Keep in mind though, once you cut off the extra length off the collar when it’s sized and looped through, it’s hard to loop the collar back through the hoops without an angled edge. I sized mine a little loose so I could pull it on and off the cats when they are home.

Wishful thinking

We usually use seresto for all the cats and dog in the house but we just couldn't swing it right now. After a bit of research these seemed so promising, but sadly just did not work for me. Didn't seem to work at all on any of our cats. I broke one right away as I stretched it but Chewy sent me another which was awesome. Just wish they worked.

Be careful when you “activate” them

I bought several of these for my outdoor cats-the very first one broke when I pulled the collar to “activate” it. I am not a real strong person-there is one section of the collar that is slightly thinner than the rest of the collar-that is where it broke. I took care with that area on the remaining collars and had no issues. It has been a week and all of the collars are still on the kitties-they don’t seem to mind wearing them at all. Other than the potential breakage issue, I am very satisfied
