Learn More About Frontline Plus From Our Team of Experts

Important Information

Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your pet has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. It may take up to 90 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

Fast-Acting, Long-Lasting Protection

Frontline Plus is formulated with two active ingredients that kill fleas and ticks and prevent new flea infestations from developing. It’s waterproof 24 hours after application, lasts for a full 30 days, and comes in formulas for cats or dogs.

Easy One-Spot Topical Application

Frontline Plus is a spot-on solution that’s available without a prescription. 1 dose = 30 days of protection.

Protects Your Pet

  • Starts killing fleas and ticks fast and protects against reinfestation.
  • Waterproof for a full 30 days starting 24 hours after application.
  • Monthly dosing keeps your cat protected for every season.

How to Apply

Follow these simple steps for application:

  1. Hold upright with foil side toward you and snap applicator tip.
  2. Part hair and apply on shoulder blades, completely emptying the pipette.
  3. Leave the solution to spread through your pet's coat.

About Frontline Plus

To ensure your cat stays protected from fleas and ticks all year round, treat them monthly with Frontline Plus. This simple, easy, one-spot topical solution helps keep your pet free from infestations, providing you with peace of mind.

I've treated my 4 kittens 2mos. now, but I'm still seeing a lot of fleas and a TON of eggs. I'm talking, within 10 min of them laying on a black cloth, it's covered with eggs(looks like I dropped the salt shaker!) Will the eggs hatch? I'm contantly vacuuming but I'm still very concerned.

Answer by StarkAug 09, 2025
You also need to treat the environment with an environmental spray, wash all that can be washed in hot water, and keep up on the flea treatments. We've been told by our vet that most cats can be treated every 3 weeks for a bad infestation. Consult your vet before doing so though.

What age do you start flea treatments I have a 6 week old

Answer by 1ZITI1Aug 06, 2025
2 months old(8 weeks) and they also must weight at least 2.5 pounds

the Frontline Gold has a 3rd ingredient that kills the eggs, (pyriproxyfen) but Frontline plus also kills eggs?? so what makes this specific ingredient (pyriproxyfen)better if both products kill the eggs?

Answer by ChewyDec 02, 2020
While Frontline Plus and Frontline Gold treat adult fleas in the exact same way, the addition of pyriproxyfen allows Frontline Gold to kill flea eggs and larvae more effectively than Frontline Plus. Frontline Plus can begin killing these pests 4 hours after application, and Frontline Gold may begin killing them as quickly as 30 minutes after application.

Is there an expiration date on these treatment packs?

Answer by ChewyAug 29, 2018
This product does not have an expiration date. As long as you keep it at room temperature and sealed in its original packaging, it will remain ready for use.

Watch for leaking packs

Two of the doses were leaking inside their packaging, which I did not notice immediately so upon opening the top the liquid ran all over my hands. None was left

Two of the doses were leaking inside their packaging, which I did not notice immediately so upon opening the top the liquid ran all over my hands. None was left in the dosing package so these two were unusable. I have one intact leaking package in case you want it sent to you. The codes on the box are: EPA Reg No 65331-4, Lot No G91388A, EPA Est. 065331-FRA-002

I really wanted it to work

I think this product might work well for fleas but it does nothing to protect my kitten from ticks and that was why I bought it. It did nothing to prevent or kill

I think this product might work well for fleas but it does nothing to protect my kitten from ticks and that was why I bought it. It did nothing to prevent or kill ticks. He goes outside and comes home and I’ll check him and find 4-7 ticks on him. It’s frustrating because Frontline has a good reputation and it’s not cheap. It was a waste of my money. I finally started using mosquito spray on a tissue and apply like frontline so he can’t lick it and it is working much better.

Didn't work.

For some reason, I was not able to buy Advantage II because was banned in my state last month. So I bought Frontline Plus. I wished I had read the reviews first

For some reason, I was not able to buy Advantage II because was banned in my state last month. So I bought Frontline Plus. I wished I had read the reviews first. This Flea medicine did not work. Cats were scratching and licking themselves. I was able to get Advantage and it started working immediately.

Defective Formula

I am canceling this auto ship and also will be requesting info for a return and refund for both the dog and cat frontline. Unfortunately frontline does not protect

I am canceling this auto ship and also will be requesting info for a return and refund for both the dog and cat frontline. Unfortunately frontline does not protect from fleas and ticks. Following my previous order and application of frontline, my dog suffered a skin allergy and needed the vet (2.5/3weeks after application of the frontline). The vet stated she had flees which was creating an allergic reaction. I shared I was using frontline and told the application date. The vet explained that Frontline’s formulation no longer works due to flees and ticks having built an immunity to it. She put her on a prescription based formula. I immediately brought my other dog and two cats in that same week and sure enough, they too had flees. The vet stated this is a known issue with Frontline’s formula for years. Adding that vets and Frontline are aware of this! I used frontline years ago with a pet that is now passed and I loved frontline so I was so shocked. Very disappointed in frontline because I truly thought frontline was a trusted company but for this to be a known issue and they continue to market and sell to pet owners is very deceptive! The vet put all my pets on a prescription based formula now that is working perfectly. I did not realize that I was signed up for a subscription to frontline until receiving the lasted package recently. So I not only want to cancel the auto ship but I would like a refund for the defective products as well. Though this is a Frontline issue and I love CHEWY, I am a bit taken back that CHEWY is allowing the sell of a known defective product and hope they look into what their stance should be with backing products on their site to customers.

Been using this for years during the summer months in central NY

We tried a different brand when we moved to Florida, which didn't work at all. So we went back to Frontline Plus. It doesn't seem to work nearly as well in Florida

Seems to be working

Seems to be working controlling the live fleas, but the instruction said takes 3 continues treatments to completely get rid of fleas, so we have 6 cats, and 3 treatments

Seems to be working controlling the live fleas, but the instruction said takes 3 continues treatments to completely get rid of fleas, so we have 6 cats, and 3 treatments meaning 18 tubes of these. At the cost of $10 on average each tube of treatment, they are not cheap. But hopefully it'll fix the issue with flea infestation in our home.

Does not work!

I had been using OTC Frontline Plus for months and thought my two indoor/outdoor cats were protected. Then October weather hit and I quickly came to realize my cats were not only INFESTED with fleas, so was my house! I bathed them both with medicated flea shampoo while waiting for our vet appt, but the amount of eggs, larvae and pupae my cats were shedding (I quarantined them to a bathroom and had them sleep on a white sheet on top of their bedding) was INSANE! And they were so itchy. At the recommendation of the vet, we did a treatment of Selarid+ a Capstar at the vet's office. BOOM! The fleas started dying immediately (thanks to the Capstar) and the shedding of flea detritus has finished completely after less than 24 hours. Both cars seem so much more relaxed and comfortable, and after a huge amount of laundering and vacuuming, my house doesn't feel gross anymore. We will definitely be ditching the Frontline Plus and sticking with Selarid!

I’m actually scared to use this product again because within a minute of applying, two of my four barn cats started panicking and hypersalivating. This lasted about 2-3 minutes before they went back to normal. Neither had licked where I applied it so, it was just through the contact with the skin. Very bizarre and concerning.
