Healthfuls Chicken Jerky with Glucosamine & Chondroitin Dog Treats, 32-oz bundle

I have to be VERY careful to put these in a top cupboard and NEVER leave them out below 5 ft. (Fourth time will be the charm, I just know it!) It's kind of like not feeding a Mogwai after midnight. My generally perfectly behaved standard poodle will open cabinets, unzip backpacks, tear open cardboard boxes and likely would walk through fire to get at this bag, and EAT THEM ALL while I am away ...or in the other freaking room! I don't know if they're actually good for him, but I do know that a dog who is VERY picky about his treats goes full gremlin for these babies. When there are any left, my 10lb befurred velociraptor (commonly called a Shih Tzu) also thinks these are top notch. You have been warned. Purchase at your own risk!

My GI sensitive dog loved the Healthfuls Chicken Tenders with Glucosamine and Chondroitin in the 11oz bag I purchased from Publix. They are labeled as “Lab tested” in the USA and produced in a “Food Grade Facility” in USA, Brazil,Germany or Mexico. I assumed the 16oz bag I ordered from Chewy, which is identically labeled as Healthfuls Chicken Tenders with Glucosamine and Chondroitin was the same product. When the 16oz bag arrived, I gave a treat to my dog, even though the treats were different in appearance. Within 24hrs he was extremely ill. When I read further down the label I realized the labeling on the 16oz bag was significantly different from the 11oz bag. These treats are not labeled as prepared in a food grade facility, they do not have the “Lab tested in the USA” seal, they lack the food safety information section and “quality pet treats” labeling, and they are made in China. I spoke with a representative from Westminster pet company (a very civil exchange of info from both sides) who advised me that there ARE two versions of the product, and though the packaging is similar, the “Lab tested in USA” label calls out the difference. The product Publix sells is from US or Germany and the product Chewy sells is from China. She assured me that they stand behind both as “high quality” products, although only the 11oz bag is labeled as such. She also acknowledged my concerns with the naming of 2 differing versions of a product with the exact same name and agreed to share my concerns with upper management. I share this lengthy exchange in the event that anyone else out there “assumes” that one pkg size of trademark item contains the exact same product as a different size package. You must compare labels and read the fine print. I hope this review saves other GI sensitive dogs from the distress mine suffered.

I normally don't do reviews but because my dogs nearly died I feel I should make you aware of the dangerous strings in it. So everyone can check the Jerky pieces before giving it to their dogs, so you don't have to go through what I had to. Those Jerky have some kind of strings in it, dogs can suffocate on them and even if they reach the stomach they can cause a condition called “linear foreign body” in the intestine causing slicing and literally sawing through the intestine and cause a perforation. Afterwards I checked every piece in all 4 packs and each had those strings in it. I buy a lot of Chicken Jerky but from other brands and I never had something like this. I attached a picture to help what I mean.

Whenever I run out and have to substitute a treat, she looks at me like “is this a joke?” The supplements really help with her arthritis.
