It’s formulated with a precise balance of minerals to deliver the essential nutrition she needs without overloading her system, which could encourage the formation of crystals.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.

Great food, watch the breath
By HappyDogMom on Feb 11, 2021
This dog food works! My dog has sodium oxalate stones and he was seeing blood in his urine. We went to the vet, spent a bunch on ultrasounds, and were saving up for an expensive surgery. The specialist prescribed the new food and the issues have disappeared. We still will monitor for stones, but his discomfort has gone away, and he loves the foos. He’s a welsh so he’s very picky, and he eats this right up. I will say, his breath smells like the bathroom, so more tooth brushing for sure, but he’s a happier healthier dog, which is so great!

Good service
By MobileALCatherine on Jan 22, 2021
The product is unchanged from buying it local. However, given the ease of the online transaction, including the ability to upload the medical prescription needed for purchase, and quick delivery, have negated the horrors of having to ever buy local again. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for small businesses. But the BUSINESS I have gotten, not once, but twice from PetSmart, left me searching elsewhere. Well done Chewie.

2 Star Food overly prescribed by vets
By Pugmom1438 on Jan 3, 2021
I have tried this food twice for my pug who's had urinary issues. I don't what causes it - as this entire food is just corn; what dog wants to eat corn? - but both times feeding this it causes my dog to heavily drool, but never vomits. It's like running water from her mouth and she's miserable. Looking this food up online and reading about it can educate anyone of the WHY vets push this food and not Purina or other brands and the low quality it is. Beware. Watch your fur baby.

My Dogs LOVEIT!
By LeninMiami on Jan 12, 2021
Got this food at the Vet's recommendation to resolve some urinary issue my older English Bulldog was having. I was concerned that at his age he might not be warm to a change in food. But both he and my other dog actually LOVE the taste of this food. It's a bit pricey and I am just assuming it is resolving the issue (light blood in the urine). But at least they are enjoying it.

By Tasha on Feb 4, 2021
My dog had a 2 inch bladder stone and vet recommended we try this before surgery it worked and has dissolved the stone. Just goes to show you how important food is. We never feed cheap dog food. Would definitely recommend.

Great dog food
By Sissy725 on Jan 15, 2021
The principle of this dog food is great. A healthy devised nutritional dog food with healthy ingredients. Unfortunately my dog feels she like regular food more. I try mixing and she spits it out. She really has me at my wits end! She needs to be on. So I’m working on it with her!

Prescription Dog Food
By Sherry on Feb 6, 2021
If you use a special or prescription brand than I recommend Chewy. It is so much easier having it shipped than trying to get it at your local Vet’s office.
