Questions & Answers

14 Customer Questions

Our pets are potentially ill. We don't need to know the "minimum" amounts of protein, potassium & PHOS, why don't the labels tell us the MAXIMUM amounts that are in the cans? or per oz? Thanks.
Answer by ChewyJan 02, 2018
At the moment, these recipes aren't tested for the maximum percent. They're formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by AAFCO.

Do you carry K/D care treats ?
Answer by ChewyOct 04, 2018

She is thriving on it!

Using this for a diabetic Rat Terrier/Cocker Spaniel/Labrador/Beagle/Boxer/Eskimo Spitz mix (we did the DNA test!). She looks like half Border Collie and half Papillon... She had dropped 7 pounds down to 23 pounds when we finally figured out what was going on. The vet started her on w/d, and we got a couple cans of k/d, which she loved, too. Figured her kidneys were in no better shape than her eyes. She is, for the most part, blind, and it happened overnight in one eye, now in the other. She's too old to have teeth capable of chewing dry food. We were feeding 1 1/2 cans a day for awhile, and she kept telling us something was wrong, butbwe didn't underatand. The vet told us she needed twice what we were feeding her. After most of a month of 3 cans a day (1 in am, 1/2 for brunch, 1/2 around 2 or 3pm, and 1 can late) she has gained 4 1/2 pounds back. She feels much better, and now know she had been telling us she was hungry! Her loss of sight in her one good eye has really slowed her down. The vet recommended we go back to the w/d food and stay there, so I will leave a glowing review of it, as well, if asked to do so. She likes one just as good as the other. The vet said it's actually the same stuff humans get in the grocery store, but cannot be labeled as such. It smells good enough to try for sure! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to replace dry food. On another note, it does not tear her stomach up like OTC canned foods would - no matter how expensive.

oH mY she's eating

After literally weeks of trying to figure out what she would and could eat, by golly, fingers crossed 🤞 I hope we hit the jackpot! Recently, diagnosed with renal disease I first tried the Hills loaf, she hated it, then I said "the heck with it" I'll feed canned chicken knowing that's not the right choice. Just got in the Hills beef & vegetable stew, so far so good 🎯 Daisy 🌼 is still at the feed bowl 😊 🐾 🐾

Expensive and yuck

!0 years ago, I was at a vet with my dog. They sold Hill's and I looked at the ingredients then and was taken aback. 10 years later, it was prescribed for my senior dog. I couldn't read the ingredients but my dog had diarrhea + the massive expense. I called my relatively new vet and was prescribed Purina Pro Plan (dry food for about $80 and Chewy won't let me write a review which is really odd). We have a worse problem now. I took time to wean my dog to the wet then the dry and since he's a corgi, he eats anything. It doesn't mean the product is good. What works is a recipe I got from a friend whose dog is in the same boat. It's easy to make (5 ingredients and you know exactly what's going in it) and it's a lot less expensive.

Highly Recommend

I am so thankful to find a kidney diet canned food that my 13 year old Maltese-shiatsu doesn't turn her nose up at! This stew like meal is quite similar to her old favorite food. It's such a relief to see her anxiously awaiting mealtime again!

Dogs prefer this to the regular solid canned kidney care

Wow - what a difference this stew makes! The dogs actually want to eat it! They had started turning away from the canned solid kidney care food- so a nice change - I don't know how long it'll last but they are gulping it up!

Dog enjoys, smells good, easy to put meds in

Since our treasured spaniel mix has been recently diagnosed with kidney disease, I am pleased that I can augment her dry Kidney & Mobility food with an appealing "wet" food. Unlike the chicken stew, the beef-based stew smells pleasant, is easy to spoon out (even after refrigeration) and put pills in -- and, most-importantly, our 13-year-old "pup" seems to find it delicious. These Rx foods are insanely expensive -- but will hopefully slow down the progression of her kidney disease, which is not her only health issue. Fingers crossed -- and good luck to my fellow pet parents!

Good product - lousy customer service

Great product for my dog with kidney issues. However, when I called Hills with a question, they refuse to talk to me about it. They said my vet would have to call them and talk to their vets.

So far so good!

Vet recommended adding some wet food to my dog’s dry food to get extra moisture into her diet. Bonus is she eats it right up, no coaxing, no hand feeding. I add only a couple of tablespoons to the dry, mixed with a little water. Mealtime stress is over!

Fills up the pup!!

Got two stew flavors for Kadie this month, Beef and Chicken. I think she prefers the beef, but she gobbles them both up! Hill’s is an expensive brand, but Chewy has great prices, thank goodness!
