Transition Instructions

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.

I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?

Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.

Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?

Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Do authorizations expire?

Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.

    Cats love this

    By on

My cats, 16 and 17 years old, love this! I was worried it would taste different then the one for just kidney function but it seems like they enjoy eating the one with added mobility more! Wish it wasn’t so expensive but their health is so important, especially at this age.

    Nope. Not a win.

I bought this for my old lady kitty, knowing my other two cats would have access to it. Absolutely none of them will eat this. They do like some other kidney diet foods. Big bummer and now I can't return it.

    She likes it!

    By on

Can't speak for every cat, of course, but mine LOVES this food. Ever since the first night I put some down for her, she's asking for it alllll the time! That's a relief since one never knows if kitty will like what she/he gets. And it's especially risky with with an expensive prescription diet that cannot be returned. I took a chance because she also likes the wet food version of "k/d + Mobility". I might, in fact, replace her regular treats with these kibbles too! That's how much she loves them. So in this case, kudos.

Bring your cat back to life

    By on

My cat has been on SO for 10 years. These past years he sleeps a lot and has arthritis. I thought he was just getting old. When systems seem worse I took him to the vet to find out his kidneys are failing. Just changing his food and L Lysine it has turned around in just one week.

My cat loves it and he feels better!

    By on

My cat loves this. He was getting so he wouldn't eat the canned k/d so as a last resort I thought I would try the dry. And he loves it, he is putting on weight and playing again.
