Transition Instructions

It is always a good idea to start out slowly on a new diet with any pet. Slowly increase the amount of new food being added to the present diet over a period of 5-7 days. If any digestive upset or loose stool occurs, make the transition more gradual. It is a good idea to allow your pet's digestive system to calm down and return to normal before proceeding.

Transition Instructions

Sudden changes in diet can sometimes result in digestive disturbances. Overfeeding is a common cause of digestive upset. Do not overfeed regardless of your pet's acceptance and eagerness. Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts with the present diet. Keep fresh water available at all times and offer plenty of exercise.

Visit the Instinct Pet Food website for more specific feeding recommendations and information on how to easily combine different forms of food.

  • Please make rabbit the next flavor in this line

    By on Top 250 Contributor

My cats eat this but they ignore any really large pieces or tiny crumbs, which means much of it gets ignored, since crumbling this ends up with most of this as crumbs. I'm also not crazy about given my allergy-prone cats chicken, but we've been at wit's end since Instinct got rid of the freeze-dried rabbit meal. I don't mean the mixer mini-bites; those are treats. We depended on the freeze dried rabbit meals as something healthier than kibble that we could leave out overnight or when being home most of the day. Rabbit has been our go-to protein that both cats could eat without having some kind of allergic or digestive reaction. Sorry that I'm using this page to voice my protest over the My cats eat this but they ignore any really large pieces or tiny crumbs, which means much of it gets ignored, since crumbling this ends up with most of this as crumbs. Sorry that I'm using this page to voice my protest over the discontinuation of the freeze-dried meals (that were the same size as the mini-bite treats, but contained vitamins/minerals that the treats don't). If you offer this product in a rabbit version, I guess even these crumbly biscuits are still better than nothing, since the freeze-dried rabbit meals were discontinued. Please offer something for those who have cats with allergies & want to avoid chicken (& turkey). We love the new rabbit flavor of the ultimate protein canned food. Now give us a freeze-dried option for raw rabbit meals. Thanks. … more

I began using this product after my 4 yr old cat was diagnosed with kidney disease.. She loves it and now after 3 months, she has no symptoms and has become active again.

  • No go for finicky kitty

    By on

My cat refuses to eat this unless we mix it with canned food. She doesn't like the smell. I don't blame her, I don't like the smell either.

  • This product was rated well by experts in cat nutrition

    By on

Unfortunately, my cats would not even take a bite. I have a 1-1/2 year old male show Persian, a 9 year old female indoor/outdoor cat, and an outdoor 8 year old male cat. Even the outdoor cat wouldn't eat it. I prepared the nuggets as directed (1 nugget + 1 tablespoon of water) and mixed it with Wellness Core Chicken canned food, which is their usual food, at a ratio of 50/50. They turned up their noses, so I added more of the Wellness food; they still didn't eat.

  • Great for my finicky cat

    By on

I have 5 cats. 2 are Bengal kittens and 1 is so picky there are not many foods she will eat. She is very small & I was concerned cause she doesn't eat much. However she devours these nuggets! She will only eat them dry. If I add water she walks away. But I am so happy that she loves these so much. My other cats will not eat these. But I am thankful she loves them!

  • Cats would not even taste once

    By on

I was tempted by good ingredients, however both of my cats absolutely refused to eat these nuggets. They did not even come as close as tasting - they immediately turned away upon smelling them! I tried a few times and gave up since they would rather starve than eat this product. Could be they are very picky... not sure...

  • Natural sources of vitamins and minerals

    By on

Nature's variety instinct raw market chicken is a great way to introduce your pet to raw food and has safer ingredients than other foods. I was feeding my cats another dehydrated raw diet but switched when I realized the ingredients started to include synthetic vitamin K, which is shown to be carcinogenic. Five out of my seven cats really enjoys this food and it is a great supplement to kibble and wet food in order for them to get variety in their diet. In order to prepare, I crumble a brick and add some water to hydrate and I usually give one brick per day per cat.

what I like about this: i like the fact that this product does not need to be in the fridge - that has saved some space for my actual raw meat. I keep this around for occasions when i am running out of raw meat or my boys need to switch it up a bit. i use a mallet to bring up the brick of meat and then give a pump or two of hot water to bring this up to "body temperature". smells just like raw meat from my fridge! what i don't like about this: this is actually fairly expensive. i did a calculation ounce by ounce - comparing it with primal frozen raw, primal freeze dried. after rehydration, this product is priced approximately $11/lb. with this price, you could have bought the rabbit flavor what I like about this: i like the fact that this product does not need to be in the fridge - that has saved some space for my actual raw meat. Chicken/turkey for Primal only cost around $7/lb at my local store). so I use this only for emergency sake. nonetheless, this is a good product and it feels more "hygienic" to feed than actually raw food. … more
