Why cant you use an extension cord.

MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.Temporary use of a UL listed cord is fine, but consult your electrician for the proper cord for your application.

I needed something to keep my chickens from having solid water every time it drops below freezing in the winter. This works perfectly. I have to fill it almost every day, but it's always warm enough to keep it from freezing. I ran an extension cord across my yard out to the coop and it's worked great all winter. I could have gotten a warmer to drop into their large waterer, but considering I unhook my hoses in the winter, filling this small one from a jug is better and it's easy to take inside to clean if I need to.

I have a family of 4 (formerly feral) cats who adopted me about 5 years ago. Since my house is already packed to the brim with pets, these sweet little guys have to live outdoors. This year, I decided to finally purchase a heated water bowl for them. It has made my life SO MUCH easier. No more going outside several times a day, on super cold days, to refill their bowls because their water is frozen. Now I have to refill it because the bowl is empty. All the neighborhood critters have found the warm water, it seems. In addition to my cats, I've found raccoons and opossum drinking from the bowl. It's a big hit! The size is great for my small animals (32 ounces) and the price was great (on sale for only $21!). As always, it arrived quickly (Chewy rocks!!). My only complaint is the cord is very short. It's only 5.5 feet, I believe. I don't have any outdoor outlets in the covered area where I have my cat houses & beds so I had to purchase a special extension cord that can be used for outdoor use (weatherproof/insulated/12 or 14 gauge, etc.). That was the only negative thing I have to say about it. I highly recommend this bowl.

I was disappointed with this thermostatic controlled bowl keeping the water warm even when the temperature is above freezing also the water evaporates fast and I have to refill it too often. The bowl I was using worked great, the thermostat would only operate, when necessary, it was made by Fi and I have had it for several years plus it was too big (1 1/2 gal. capacity) much more than I need that's why I thought I would try this bowl.

We just fill it and forget (throw some snow in there when the water level drops). Odds are we will keep this up for summer months also.

I was adopted by a young feral cat this past winter. Unfortunately, she will not willingly come inside my house. I must carry her inside which leads to her laying by a door constantly meowing. I live in the Northeast US and providing water is a problem. This heated water dish works perfectly. During a recent cold snap on Long Island all the available water sources were frozen solid except the contents of this dish. One less worry. Good for Chewy as I will need to purchase a second one as Chinese manufactured electronics are not known for their longevity. Also, the lack of a grounded plug indicates that this dish does not meet any reputable safety standard.

Should I keep bowl half full, does it work up to -2F, etc. I would have bought a larger bowl if the heater worked better and a definitive temperature range would be appreciated as it gets cold where I am at and I would not have purchased at all if I knew it wouldn't work for me. I had previously purchased the 96-oz. bowl a couple of years ago. This time I made the mistake and ordered the 32-oz. While it still works well and will keep the water from freezing, it's smaller size means that I have to refill it much more often and that will be a pain this winter. It's nothing to do with the quality of the bowl though. I will say that I have the bowls placed underneath of a shelter so they are not directly exposed to having snow fall on them (it also keep tree debris out of the water). I'm sure this helps prolong the life of the bowl.

Bought this to be the water source for the winter feeding station we set up on our front porch. We have a lot of stray kitties in the neighborhood and some possums and skunks that visit us occasionally. I bought a small dish to be sure it would work for where I planned to place it. It works exactly as described. This is our first really cold & snowy day of the season. Attached is a pic from today (21 degrees out).
