Normosol-R is indicated for replacement of acute extracellular fluid volume losses in surgery, trauma, burns or shock. Normosol-R also can be used as an adjunct to restore a decrease in circulatory volume in pets with moderate blood loss. Normosol-R is not intended to supplant transfusion of whole blood or packed red cells in the presence of uncontrolled hemorrhage or severe reductions of red cell volume.
Side effects are unlikely if the proper dose is given. Abscesses or infection may occur at the injection site if a sterile needle and proper technique were not used during administration. If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Consult your veterinarian before using Electrolyte Solutions with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, since interactions may occur. Some injectable medications are not compatible with the components in the solution.
Normosol-R should be used with caution in severe renal impairment because of the danger of hyperkalemia. As with all intravenous solutions, care should be taken to avoid circulatory overload, especially in pets with cardiac or pulmonary disorders. Normosol-R is not intended to correct acidosis or large deficits of individual electrolytes, nor to replace blood or plasma expanders when these are indicated.
This drug is FDA-approved for human use. However, it is common practice for veterinarians to prescribe such drugs for use in dogs and cats.

Electrolyte Solutions are used to maintain hydration or to rehydrate animals in many situations including the treatment of shock, decreased oral fluid intake, and to replace fluids lost due to an illness such as kidney disease.
Electrolyte Solutions are given intravenously or subcutaneously. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. This medication should only be given to the pet for which it was prescribed.
Electrolyte Solutions work to restore proper balance of electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium, etc.) in the body, so that important actions like muscle contraction and nerve activity can take place. They also supply additional water that the body needs when oral fluid intake is not sufficient.
Electrolyte Solutions will help to maintain hydration, but especially in chronic disease conditions will need to be given on a regular basis, or dehydration will recur. The amount to give and how often to give it will depend upon the pet's response to treatment and the severity of the disease.

Because I was overly busy for a couple months due to hubby passing away, I fell behind on ordering these lifesaving fluids for my now-11yo calico. Since I only had one dose left, I thought it would be better to get a bag from my nearby vet to set up right away and then do my order of more bags from Chewy. I decided to get two. I told the vet I had the attachments at home and didn't need any new ones. It took them 20 minutes to get it ready---AND they decided to include attachments THEY plugged in even though I said it wasn't necessary as I have lots of experience with them. (I never plug in until I am gooing to use that bag)I looked at the receipt after I got home a couple hours later and it was $95 for 2 bags AND the hookups I don't need. They even inserted the hookups INTO the bags and said they came with the bags. They don't come with since it's a separate charge and I could hear the vet tech saying she was having trouble getting one of them in. I never plug in the tubes until I am ready to use. I will never again forget to order this lifesaving product from Chewy and now have estimated reorder dates on my regular calendar. And may go back to a different vet in town I've used before but isn't as handy to get to. Makes me sad. The new ownership is 'just business' and the 2 carryover employees don't get much say.
Excellent product and much less expensive than at the vet.
It has arrived perfect condition. Sadly I did not use at all since my cat passed away before that. Chewy has been great through out my four cats. Thank you.
I'm so happy Chewy carries this item at an affordable price. 3 bags/mo, meds, Rx food etc, is astronomically expensive. I'm glad thanks to Chewy, I can afford to make kitty more comfortable for the time he has left. Thank you so much Chewy.
Honestly, I hate having to do this sub-q fluids thing. It is so painful for me as it is for my 5lb Yorkie that trembles uncontrollably from fear of the injection. She hates the cool fluid in her. My dog is nothing like any of the youtube videos that show calm pets getting the fluid. My dog will push and scratch away. However, because of this fluid, she has come back to life! My Yorkie is no long dehydrated, she has energy to eat independently and is finally standing up and even running behind me! I only wish this Normosol-R Fluid bag came with the tubing. Everything is a separate cost (fluid, tube, needles) and since this is a life-time need for my dog with Chronic Kidney Disease, it is too costly to pay for every part necessary to give this fluid. A new tubing is needed with every bag and for people like me that go through one bag every five days...we could definitely appreciate for Normosol-R to come with the tubing for the same price. Perhaps have a discounted rate for those who need this product for the dog's lifespan.
My old guy has been having some health issues and the Normosol is what the vet had given him for dehydration. I have been giving this at home for awhile now and it really has made a difference in how my boy feels. I am so glad that Chewy has a pharmacy. My vet that I have used for 20+ years is now an hour away from me. Being able to order this instead of driving so far just to pick up meds has really helped me alot.
My dog recently had an acute kidney episode that left her kidney's damaged and will need to be on fluid therapy for the rest of her life. Was thinking I wouldn't be able to afford treatment for very long but Chewy has made it possible! Thank you so much for carrying this product, it is a literal life saver in my case!
I am so THANKFUL that chewy is carrying these fluids. We're using sub-q fluids 2x daily for Pockets, who is CKD. We were having trouble buying them from the vet due to cost especially being on maintenance. When I saw these at chewy along with the HUGE price difference, was so overjoyed. I'm not sure what the difference is between this and the regular lactacted ringers other than the amount of ingredients but this is what was always used at my vet for Pockets when he had to have fluids thru the vein. It's working for Pockets.
