The Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Kidney Care with Tuna Canned Cat Food is clinically proven nutrition that can help transform your pet’s life. As pets age, damage to the kidney tissues may occur, which affects the kidney’s role to function properly and filter toxins and waste from the blood. It is irreversible, and will lead to further loss of kidney function. This may also decrease their appetite, which could eventually result in the loss of muscle mass. And so the Hill’s nutritionists and veterinarians created this special diet, which supports your cat’s kidney function and helps to sustain muscle mass—in fact, the nutrition of k/d is clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.
Key Benefits- Protects vital kidney and heart function with proven nutrition developed by nutritionists and veterinarians.
- Stimulates appetite and increases caloric intake, and supports the natural ability to build lean muscle daily.
- Made with controlled phosphorus and low sodium, plus therapeutic levels of l-carnitine and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Also includes high levels of essential amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.
- Made in USA and clinically tested to improve and lengthen the quality of life.

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.

Good choice for kidney issues
By Thea on Feb 19, 2021
My kitty is over 16 years old and beginning to show symptoms of kidney disease (elevated markers in blood tests). The vet recommended KD because it has almost half the protein of most canned foods. The vet gave us the chicken flavor but my kitty didn’t care much for it. Luckily Chewy had the tuna KD and delivered it very quickly. My kitty likes the tuna and has been eating it exclusively for the last few weeks. Too early to tell if her kidney function will stabilize but there is no doubt this food is easier on her body.

My cat likes this food
By Bleatalon on Feb 26, 2021
My 15-year old cat has recently been diagnosed with kidney disease so this is one of 3 different kidney disease foods I get for her and she likes it very much and never leaves any of it in the bowl. Kidney disease cats don't like to drink water and they should to flush their kidneys so I add water to the food to make it soupy. This way she gets the water she needs because she's not drinking enough water on her own.

Kitty Loves It
By Shell on Feb 9, 2021
Most importantly, my cat loves this food. The fact that it is wet makes it easy for me to add her blood pressure medicine to it. She is 16 years old and needs this special diet because, like most cats her age she suffers from kidney failure. It isn't fixing anything, but it gives me comfort to know that it is formulated to make things easier on her body and provider her with appropriate nutrition.

Great food for cats with kidney disease
By Susan on Feb 14, 2021
My cat Annie who has stage 3 kidney disease really liked this tuna flavor KD can food when I bought it locally but as soon as I ordered a case of it, she wouldn't touch it. Thankfully, she's eating the dry chicken flavor KD, which is great considering she usually dislikes dry kibble.

so far so good
By Denise on Feb 27, 2021
I had been buying the smaller cans of k/d. That formulation is labeled "stew" and my cat hated the carrots. I just switched to the pate - no veggies so he's a very happy cat. I bought both the tuna and the chicken and he's equally happy with both.

K/D kidney care pate
By MaryE on Jan 29, 2021
This food is highly recommended, however, Caleb, my cat with kidney problems was soo sick he didn't eat much. I do not blame the food, it was 3 days after the order came that he passed on. I would recommend this to customers because the Veterinarian recommended Chewy's selections specifically.

19 year old cat's kidney levels are improved & stable after 3 years of K/D food!
By Complexity on Dec 12, 2020
We got a Burmese kitten for our daughter's 12th birthday to take with her when she moved out so she wouldn't feel so alone. She named her "Hershey Bar" to reflect her dark fur and how sweet she is. Unfortunately, our daughter could not care for Hershey as well when she was on her own. She moved back home when Hershey was 16 years old. Vet checkup diagnosed a number of issues, including kidney disease and low body weight so she prescribed K/D food. At her next checkup, her blood tests results were better and she had gained sufficient weight. Her liver disease had improved. The K/D food was working so we agreed with our vet to keep her on it. And best of all, the blood tests for her kidneys have improved and remained stable. Our vet is very pleased with her health, especially given her age. I am so thankful for the K/D food to manage Hershey's liver disease so well. She is a very healthy cat at 19 years old, and we hope she can live a few years longer. … more

K/D Helps Elderly Cat
By Christiesmom on Jan 17, 2021
My elderly cat (officially 17 1/2, though the vet says older) has been on this prescription formula food for her weakening kidneys for several years and is doing very well on it. Recent orders placed through my vet have been very slow in arriving, so I'm relieved to be able to purchase it from Chewy and receive it in just a few days.

Sample Can Success
By Mary on Nov 24, 2020
My girl is a bit odd. She's picky but she has no issue with a 100% diet change overnight. Basically, she eats what she likes and refuses what she doesn't with very little in between. I've had her on the Tuna Stew kidney diet for months. Recently she's become extremely itchy, and I believe it's from being allergic to something in the tuna stew. I was going to buy a case of this to test, but luckily I haven't gone and donated the food I tried her on previously, because the Hill's kidney diet sample pack has a can of this food! I just fed some to her for her breakfast and she ate nearly all of it, just like she would with her tuna stew. Now to see if she accepts it for dinner and, the biggest My girl is a bit odd.
