Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment is indicated for the treatment of chronic keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS or dry eye) in dogs.
Please contact your veterinarian if the following adverse reactions occur: eye or eyelid inflammations or redness, the mild discomfort of the eye, transient hyperemia, mild hair loss, lid spasm and excessive rubbing.
In the KCS clinical field trial, there were 20 adverse reactions reported out of 132 cases enrolled. The reactions described were primarily ocular and periocular inflammatory reactions. These were likely a failure to completely control the condition, rather than a true "adverse reaction."
On rare occasion, Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment may be associated with local irritation such as periocular redness, lid spasm, and excessive rubbing. As the eyes of dogs with KCS often demonstrate considerable inflammation, it will be difficult to determine whether this local irritation constitutes a hypersensitivity to Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment. If this ocular irritation persists beyond 7 days see your vet.
When switching to this medication from another therapeutic agent (e.g., frequent application of an artificial tear preparation), keep in mind that clinical effectiveness is not necessarily apparent immediately after initiation of this medication. Several days to a few weeks may be required before the clinical effects are of sufficient magnitude, such that previously initiated therapy can be safely withdrawn. Abrupt cessation of a therapeutic agent immediately upon initiation can result in rapid clinical relapse, which may be erroneously interpreted as an adverse reaction to the medication. It is recommended that in cases of preexisting viral or fungal ocular infections, this medication is delayed until the infection has been successfully treated.

Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment is an eye ointment that contains cyclosporine. It is used for the management of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS or dry eye). May also be prescribed for the management of inflammation in another eye condition called chronic superficial keratitis (CSK).
Give Optimmune exactly as directed by your veterinarian. Optimmune is given directly to the eye.
Cyclosporine has broad anti-inflammatory effects that help to reduce damage to the tear glands while also stimulating tear production.
It may take a few weeks to achieve a maximum effect. If there is not improvement or the condition worsens, contact your veterinarian.

My order from Chewy was for prescription eye drops for my dog. The delivery was fine, as was the product, but the packaging was ridiculous. A tiny tube of eye drops was in a box, which was put in a large plastic pill bottle, which was put into a large cardboard box, with packing material. From now on I will get them from my vet, because I hate creating all of this extra packaging for a tiny tube of eye drops. The drops could have been sent in a padded envelope. I love Chewy, but they need to be more environmentally friendly.
This medication is very expensive and the price keeps going up. Chewy’s price started reasonably however it’s getting close to what the vet is charging. We’re looking for another online source for pet meds now.
but good. Been using this ointment for a few years. Easy to administer as he had bleeding in left eye - but also using in both eyes, Condition is stable. PET is 16- and vision has diminished but this is for his lifetime and no adverse reaction to it.
My dog, Lilly, has an eye condition that requires the above medication. I appreciate how quickly I received my order after placing it. Thank you, Chewy, for making it easy to order from your service.
My order was for a special ointment for my dog's autoimune eye infection.and delivered promptly. Recommend as needed. It is expensive but necessary to treat Pannus.
My dog has keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS, dry eye) so he needs this RX medicine twice a day. He is also on Refresh Tears which I have to give 20min apart from one another. The Optimmune makes my dogs eyes blink/squint more after giving him the medicine. He sometimes paws at his eyes and licks his legs. My vet said Optimmune can cause some eyelid spasming and some local irritation, but I think most dogs get used to this. He said to keep using Optimmune since we know it helps to reduce the risk of corneal inflammation and secondary infection in the dogs with KCS.
Savannah has been on Optimmune for 20 months due to an eye injury. It appears she will have to continue indefinitely. This is the second tube I received from Chewy. I am saving $24 each tube. I wish I started 19 months ago. She is also on another medication that is cheaper with Chewy.
Prescribed by my vet early 2023 the daily ointment has been very effective for my dog. It is a prescription medication. Chewy Pharmacy is always very quick at getting medications to me
This stuff is great. It gives my dog great relief from her dry eyes BUT it is very expensive for the amount of product that you get. I use, approved by my vet, OTC eye drops that I alternate back and forth.
The first tube of med was full. This one I had to flatten half of the tube before any meds came out.
