About ORAVET

The Dual-Action Difference

ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews are designed to clean your dog’s teeth down to the gumline. These chews form a protective barrier that prevents bacterial attachment for happy, healthy mouths.

The Taste Dogs Love*

ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews are easy to give because dogs love the way they taste.* Your dog will enjoy chewing her way to better dental hygiene, and you’ll love her fresh breath and clean teeth.

How ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews Work

ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews feature a dual-acting mechanism. As your dog is enjoying the chew, the chewing action helps scrub away existing plaque from teeth right down to the gumline. Meanwhile, delmopinol, the special ingredient in each chew, coats your dog’s teeth to form a protective barrier against the bacteria that cause plaque and tartar buildup. This dual-action design allows ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews to clean and protect to keep your dog’s mouth healthy.

The Importance of Dental Health

Within a matter of hours, bacteria can build up in your dog’s mouth, forming plaque. As the plaque accumulates, it hardens and turns into calculus. A buildup of plaque and calculus can lead to bad breath and dental problems. That’s why it’s important for your dog to have a daily dental routine.

About ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews

ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews have a vanilla aroma and a delicious poultry flavor that dogs love.* Their chewy texture allows teeth to sink in, maximizing scrubbing action against plaque. ORAVET Dental Hygiene Chews also contain delmopinol, an ingredient also used in human oral rinses. Delmopinol coats teeth, helping to create a barrier against the bacteria that cause bad breath and are the basis for plaque and tartar. Keep plenty of chews on hand for easy, at-home daily dental care.

Questions & Answers

13 Customer Questions

Are the ingredients from USA? Are they made in the USA?

Answer by ChewyApr 07, 2021
These dental care chews are manufactured in the USA

Are these chewy or can they be cut into pieces? I have a 9 year old boxer with teeth issues

Answer by ChewyJan 17, 2021
If your pet has a dental concern, we recommend consulting your Veterinarian to see what would be the safest for your pets current treatment plan. These chews have a unique dual-action mechanism that prevents bacterial attachment--reducing halitosis (bad breath) at the source. The action of chewing works to loosen and dislodge plaque to help it break away from teeth. Then, the extra ingredient, delmopinol, works by disrupting the plaque matrix and forms a barrier, preventing new bacteria from adhering to the teeth.

Do they help with bad breath?

Answer by ChewyDec 21, 2020
These chews also contain delmopinol, which helps coat the teeth, creating a barrier against bacteria that cause plaque, tartar, and bad breath.

Should a Great Dane that is around 150 pounds still only have one a day?

Answer by ChewyJan 24, 2021
More than one treat per day should not be given.

The medicated chew was great for hardened plaque and bad breath

Watching the dogs chew this is like watching someone chew on taffy. They have to work at it, but it clearly feels good to them and they seem to love the flavor. Although my large dog finishes his chew much sooner than expected, the taffy like chewing seems to do the trick at coating his teeth to help loosen the very hardened plaque. I've been using these for almost 3 months along with a probiotic regimen and the difference is night and day. The plaque has largely disappeared and the bad breath is gone! Teeth look whiter, too. These are expensive but if you're serious about removing stubborn plaque without having to do a teeth cleaning at the vet, then it is well worth the money. These work, and my dogs love them. In addition, I also use a hard dental chew for the dogs. I think of it as a 1-2 punch. The Orate chew softens the plaque and massages the gums. The hard chews chip away at the loosened plaque and stimulate the gums and strengthen teeth. I use both and will probably switch these up intermittently for maintenance. I will also stick with an ongoing probiotic regimen. I never believed in doing all that, as I never had the problem with my prior dogs. But I'm a believer now!

The best treats ever! My dog loves these treats and they don’t really cause any upset stomach issues for her. I have a smaller female Rottweiler (~80lbs) and I haven’t been the best at brushing her teeth. These treats took her dental hygiene from troublesome to manageable in just one week! No more smelly breath and plaque went from covering the tooth to just under the gum line with this treat alone no brushing. I will definitely be brushing her teeth in addition to giving her these treats but for a first time pet owner, being able to take back control of my dogs’s oral wellbeing is a huge relief off my shoulders!

I tried everything to stop my dog’s bad breath. He even had his teeth professionally cleaned and checked for anything serious, thankfully, everything was fine. Still, I wanted to get rid of the odor, and this stuff is amazing. It’s a little pricey, but it works. He’s had no bad breath for months, and it didn’t even take weeks to see results.

These dental chews are a perfect chew for all of my dogs. They are not too hard or too soft. Oravets are what my vet recommended after my dogs dental cleaning to keep plaque and tartar away and all of my dogs like them! The bonus is that there is not chicken in the ingredients so even my allergy dog can enjoy them. Highly recommend after every dinner!

I’ve used OraVet chews on the recommendation of a previous vet, and for almost five years I’ve had no complaints. However, I had to throw the last bag I purchased away because for several days in a row, she vomited after eating one. She’s a hound lab mastiff mix and so I figure once or twice, maybe she picked something tasty up on a walk (she’s really sneaky). But I changed the time I gave it, changed whether it was on an empty or full stomach, didn’t matter. She vomited every time. I switched.

It seems to help control tarter

My senior cattle dog never needed teeth cleaning when she was younger. But as she aged that changed. She has been eating on of these chews a day for 2 years now

My senior cattle dog never needed teeth cleaning when she was younger. But as she aged that changed. She has been eating on of these chews a day for 2 years now. It took me a while to realize that it was best to give this to her a a bedtime treat. It seems to be more effective if she eats it and then not eating any food until breakfast.

Both of my dogs love these and it does take them longer to chew on than other dental treats. My dogs have both had recent dental check-ups and their vet said they have little to no plaque and no cavities / other issues! These are softer than similar dental treats but still very chewy and long lasting.

So I read some reviews saying that this caused diarrhea and was hesitant. The first bag of 30 worked good. Greenish poop, but that was about it. I purchased a second bag and that is where problems started. He got his treat after a bath at night (7pm) and the next day around 4pm when I got home he had a large mess at the door way and had two more bouts outside when I took him. I didnt think anything of it. The next day (48 hours after the chew) I gave him another. He was hesitant at first but ate it. Overnight there were 4 smaller piles throughout the house. 3 year old lab weighing 75 pounds.

My dog was fine with the chew, but she developed and ear infection. It was the only change in her life. I did stop the chews and restarted after 3 weeks because I had 3 unopened bags and they are quite expensive. . She got the ear infection again. My vet advised that it was this likely change that was the culprit. I switched dental chews to Virbac C.E.T. Veggie Dent, and no more ear infections.
