You are pay more than you think
By Gabby on Mar 24, 2021
I decided to give this a try because it looked like the better deal. It looked like I was going to get 398 ounces of hay for $52, that comes out to about .13 per ounce. However, when I got the hay a lot of it was brown. It did include a pink note as stated by other reviewers basically saying that they don’t inspect the larger supplies as well as the smaller ones. That was nice that they included the note but basically they are acknowledging and already excusing themselves for giving you a bad product. I thought to myself how bad can it be. Well it’s worst than I thought. Basically I would say at least if not more of 1/3 of hay is brown. So if you make the calculations, you are technically I decided to give this a try because it looked like the better deal. So if you make the calculations, you are technically paying $52 for 265 (not 398) ounces of hay which calculates to .20 per ounce. So even though they show on writing that you pay .13 per ounce because of all the brown you are actually paying .7 cents more per ounce. Just a heads up. I will be trying out the 9lb box next in hopes thats better quality since its smaller supply they should be actually inspecting it better according to their pink note. Hoping I will actually get my monies worth at .15 to .17 per ounce depending on the deal. … more

Best 4 hay eating critterz
By bunnymom04bunnyz on Mar 19, 2021
I have four rabbits who, I mainly feed hay and veggies. I do like the oxbow pellets, but it’s unneeded for them. They do well on there natural diet. I will occasionally feed pellets three times a week, either way my rabbits enjoy their hay very much. Only reason for four stars is the quality tends to change and it can be very dusty. Thanks :)

Increase of bugs in my bunny room
By cass on Mar 11, 2021
I'm not sure if it was due to the bulk hay or not but as soon as I got my 50lb box of hay a bunch of spiders kept popping up in my bunny room. One time I was filling my babies hay and a spider started crawling on the liter box my bun was sitting in! Gave me the creepy crawlys. I knew quality wouldn't be the best but the spiders! Not worth the creepy crawlys and will probably stick to smaller sizes from now on.... Love oxbow though, just wish I didn't have to fear a spider everytime I reached into the box :/

Oxbow hay - more like oxbow dust
By Varun on Mar 19, 2021
Hello, I am very disappointed with my most recent order of 50lbs of Oxbow Hay. It is mostly full of powdered hay dust with a sprinkle of hay in between. My rabbits won’t go anywhere near it. I was hoping it was only the top layer. But the rest of the box is no better; if anything worse. I read few of the other reviews slamming the recent decline in quality of hay. Hoping you take note of this and rectify it soon.

Decent but not as good quality as their smaller packs of hat
By Deni on Mar 10, 2021
So I have my two guinea pigs and wanted to set up an auto ship order to stay stocked up on their supplies while in school. So I ordered the 9lb box of hay but it seems more dry and not as high quality as when I buy the smaller packs(such as 90 oz) my guinea pigs didn’t like it much and didn’t eat it. It was dry and more yellow than green which isn’t the normal kind of quality I get from oxbow. Likely will just have to switch to smaller batches that aren’t as good of a deal

Not the best in quality
By SusanC on Mar 29, 2021
A lot of the hay in this box is brown (most of the Oxbow boxes I’ve gotten in the past 6 yrs had all-green hay.) The strands of hay are really thin and short. There is also a lot of crushed pieces and dust. With it being a 50 lb box I expect some of the hay to be of a lesser quality, but so far all of it is.

Hit or miss
By giav on Mar 25, 2021
Like the majority have mentioned, it's a hit or miss. The first time I ordered I was very happy and so were my guinea pigs. The hay was soft and green. This time around the hay is very brittle and my pigs don't want to eat it. It sucks when you buy in bulk because it seems like a waste of money if you get a bad batch

Great for a long term stash!
By Lanie on Mar 7, 2021
I ordered the largest box and it’s a HUGE box. It will likely last my two rabbits 6 months, maybe more. The hay is green and fresh. The rabbits go crazy for it and prefer it over the local feed store hay I was getting before. Because of the rabbit virus I decided to get something compact I could keep inside and hopefully would come from a safe source. Happy with the buy. It was not easy to move the box alone! It’s big heavy and awkward!

New package is awful
By Bobby on Mar 27, 2021
Our pigs still like the hay, but the new compressed packaging is VERY hard to use. I have actually cut my hands trying to break the hay apart. And now it is much more small pieces and crumbs than it used to be. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of brands widely available.

too shredded and pressed hay
By Mika on Mar 14, 2021
Bought this new pack instead of the Oxbow Western Timothy & Orchard Hay Small Animal Food, 90-oz bag which I used to buy for a long time. The old became too shredded and pressed. The new is even worse. A lot of the hay is not consumed by our guinea pigs. Very disappointed.
