Quality decline in recent months
By Lauren on Mar 1, 2021
I am not sure what's going on lately but the last 2 boxes we've received of our 50lb Timothy hay have been terrible quality. We've been getting oxbow hay ever since we got our rabbits, almost 3 years ago now, but in recent months something must have changed because the quality just isn't there anymore. In fact it's so bad that we're wasting nearly half the Box of hay because our rabbits won't eat it! We've always loved oxbow as a brand and have recommended it to many many people who have hay eating pets but I don't think we will be doing that anymore if the quality doesn't go back to how it originally was soon. We are so going to allow the next auto shipment of hay to come in just to see if maybe I am not sure what's going on lately but the last 2 boxes we've received of our 50lb Timothy hay have been terrible quality. Bad quality
By customer on Jan 25, 2021
I ordered 25lbs box, and I am very disappointed at the quality of their hay. Not fresh at all, most of the hay are brown, and very dusty. I am shocked that they think it ok to feed this quality of hay to animals. I guess they don’t care about animals at all. I will never ever shop their hay any more. I like Chewy, they always ship fast, but oxbow hay is terrible, at lest when it’s boxed size.

Low quality, foul smelling straw
By Aaren on Jan 29, 2021
I've been a huge Oxbow supporter and loyal customer for years. I've always stood by their products because they've always been high quality. This batch of hay however, was an extreme disappointment. Most of it is brown and hard, much like straw. And don't even get me started on the smell. I've used Oxbow hay for many years and it has always been vibrant green and very pleasant and fresh smelling. But this, this smells like old bedding. It's honestly atrocious. I always buy in bulk since it lasts me so long, but now I find myself without any hay and unable to get more for some time since this bale fits into a tight budget for me.

Not so worth it
By Jocelin on Feb 10, 2021
This hay came with a note in the box saying some of the hay would be dry (brown, straggly). I knew this was the risk in buying such a large quantity. I’m not sure that the time wasted & mess thats made digging through the box trying to look for green hay is worth it. Seems to me better to buy in small quantities where you know ALL of the hay is quality. If I don’t dig through and sort out the green hay, my buns won’t eat it.

It’s a product of nature
By Maka on Feb 16, 2021
Our bunnies LOVE this Timothy. It’s literally their staple diet. Be advised however that this is a product of nature, so not EVERY BOX is going to be perfect. One box will have long, green stalks that hold color and scent for well over a month. Other boxes will be short cut and fade in color fast, with lots of powder in the bag. This is still a fantastic product, and I highly recommend it for any pet owner than needs Timothy for their pets.

Buy Small Pet Select instead!!!!
By Jodie on Mar 2, 2021
I'm a first time bunny mom. I bought Small Pet Select the first time. I thought I'd try what I thought was a quality brand. Soo disappointed. Theres more brown than green. Going back to SPS, Will never buy Oxbow again.

Awful quality lately
By Guineapigowner on Jan 31, 2021
I buy a box of Oxbow hay once a month for my guinea pigs. Normally there are no issues. However, the last three boxes have been such awful quality that they wont even eat it. It's hard and dense, almost worse than straw. Usually it's soft and pliable. Im not sure if it's Oxbow itself or maybe the way it's being stored or what, but I've now wasted $60 on hay they won't/can't eat and have had to buy elsewhere.

Timothy hay
By Wheeking on Jan 15, 2021
I’ve had a few guienea pigs now in my life and learned over the years basically through them and they have never refused this hay. Over the years the package has changed and I have noticed that it’s slightly harder to get the hay out with out making a huge mess, I realize that it’s vacuumed packed and cutting the seal helps but still a challenge. Also have tried oxbow grass and hay mix not a huge fan they still ate it, seemed a bit more dry.

Not the greatest batch
By Krissy on Mar 4, 2021
Oxbow hay is usually amazing, but unfortunately it seems to be a bad harvest season. The batch I received was mostly broken up and sharp and had more stalks. Also lighter in color. I'll order it again, just going to wait til Spring.

Happy Piggies Have Their Yummy Hay!
By Giggy on Jan 5, 2021
I have been looking for a reliable source of the 50# Orchard Grass for our herd of 22 Guinea Pigs. After being overcharged, long shipping delays and having our order delivered to the wrong side of the country I took the plunge and started my repeat delivery from Chewy. My hay was delivered within a week of shipment and we could not be more delighted. Hay is the #1 most important part of a guinea pig's diet and with such a large herd we need to match quality with price. Chewy has my vote. Thank you so much!!!
