The Extreme Weather Aluminum Pet Door utilizes 3 insulated flaps with a magnetic seal to prevent drafts. Replacement part are available through PetSafe.

Can this been installed in the lower solid section of a metal storm/screen door?

This door is designed for installation in solid doors. As long as the metal portion is completely metal, the Extreme Weather Aluminum Pet Door fits most exterior wood, paneled, PVC and metal doors measuring 1.5 - 2 inches thick.

Flaps cracking

This item was great when I first installed it. It kept the cold air out during the winter. I have two big dogs that run in and out of the house through the dog

This item was great when I first installed it. It kept the cold air out during the winter. I have two big dogs that run in and out of the house through the dog door, but I had to replace the door flaps because the bottom of the flaps that have the magnetic strips cracked at the corners and the strip keeps sliding out. I replaced them once and need to determine if I will replace them again or buy something new, but right now I am thinking of purchasing a different brand so I don’t have to worry about the door flaps cracking and having to replace them. That is the reason I gave 2 stars, I should have given a one star rating but I purchase other items from chewy.com that I really like.

It is better than the single door

I don't understand why they couldn't make this fit the classic frame? Or create an extreme weather one for the classic. We leave our back door open all the time

I don't understand why they couldn't make this fit the classic frame? Or create an extreme weather one for the classic. We leave our back door open all the time so the dogs can come and go through the storm door as they please. The holes didn't match up, but we made our own holes and rigged it to make it work. It keeps most of the cold out, but it is just a tiny bit smaller, so some wind comes through. Overall, I love this dog door. I love the multiple layers to keep out the cold. I can't wait to see how it works for the heat come summer.

Big and sturdy!

This door is great for the colder weather we get here in michigan! It blocks out the draft, and having the 3 flaps makes it heavy enough to keep the wind from blowing

This door is great for the colder weather we get here in michigan! It blocks out the draft, and having the 3 flaps makes it heavy enough to keep the wind from blowing it open and letting the cold in. This size is a great fit for my taller large dogs as well as my shorter medium dog. At first glance I thought the flaps might be to heavy for my cats to pass through but they actually have no problems getting in and out. All in all this is a great product.

This is the 4th door in 3 1/2 years

Flap hardware fell apart in 5 months

Pretty disappointed. Installed in April of 2025 and the flap hardware broke into pieces and the in flaps fell off in 5 months. My dogs are relatively gentle when

Pretty disappointed. Installed in April of 2025 and the flap hardware broke into pieces and the in flaps fell off in 5 months. My dogs are relatively gentle when they go though the doors and I expected the door hardware to last at least 1 year. I foresaw this happening when I read the reviews before purchasing, I was hoping it wouldn’t happen to me. Other than the doors falling off, the door worked well for 5 months. Will try to find hardware kit and repair myself

It was pretty easy for my handyman to install.

I replaced a 20+ year old door. This one is much nicer with an insulated door instead of a metal one. Keeps the cold from getting in.

XL Dog Door

This door is made well and it's keeping the cold outside. Tall enough that our Lab with bad hips and joints can walk through easily without tripping.

The flaps are so heavy, and with the magnets, offer too much resistance for a dog’s nose to force them open. We had to dismantle the flaps and only use the middle

The flaps are so heavy, and with the magnets, offer too much resistance for a dog’s nose to force them open. We had to dismantle the flaps and only use the middle one. This way it works, but offers no weather control. We could have purchased a much less expensive one, but needed the extra large size.

Waste of money!

Unfortunately my money went down the drain on this purchase. The door did not stand up to a rambunctious Great Dane. All of the screws began loosing up and falling

Unfortunately my money went down the drain on this purchase. The door did not stand up to a rambunctious Great Dane. All of the screws began loosing up and falling out. The middle part of the flap broke in half at the top! Maybe the screws need to be longer with bolts on them to keep this from happening. I don't know, just very frustrating. This is a first for me with Chewy of not being satisfied
