Shopping for Veterinary Diets is easy! Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer your questions and guide you through the process. We offer competitive prices, free shipping on orders over $49, and more savings if you sign up for an Autoship subscription.

How do I order Veterinary Diets?

  1. Search our website for the diet your vet recommends, then add it to your cart. You can purchase your Veterinary Diets with any other goodies you need!
  2. At checkout, you’ll be asked for required information. Enter your pet’s name and your vet’s name & telephone number.
  3. Place your order, and we’ll take care of the rest!

How will you contact my vet?

Our Veterinary Diets team will personally contact your vet for approval. If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we’ll let you know immediately.

Does it help if I send you my veterinarian’s authorization?

Yes! If you have a paper copy of your vet’s authorization, email a picture to vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat, or fax it to 1-800-619-7973.

Can I use a veterinarian’s authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?

Of course! We can accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States and Canada—that includes US territories, like Puerto Rico.

Why do I need a veterinarian’s authorization?

Veterinary Diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. If you don’t have a paper authorization, no sweat—once you provide your vet’s information, our team will take over.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?

Yes, but we’ll need them to provide us with the full name of the pet’s owner’s name via phone, email or chat after the order is placed, so the clinic can locate your pet’s records when we contact them.

How can I help expedite my order?

Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Create your pet’s profile on Chewy.com.
  2. If you have an Autoship scheduled, but you’re running low on your Veterinary Diets, contact us ahead of time to let us know if you have a new clinic or if any authorization information has changed.
  3. If you have an authorization handy, send it to us before you order—by sending an email to vetdiet@chewy.com, starting a chat with one of our experts, or faxing us at 1-800-619-7973.

Do I need to set up a pet profile?

We recommend it, but it’s not required. You can create your pet’s profile by logging in at Chewy.com, hovering over your account, and choosing “pet profile.”

Do authorizations expire?

Yes. Your vet will tell us when your authorization will expire and how many times we can send before they’d like you to check back in with them.

Can I set up automatic refills?

Yep! Sign up for Autoship and we’ll automatically ship your Veterinary Diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills, or your authorization expires, we’ll automatically contact your vet for a new authorization. If we hit any bumps in the road, we’ll let you know right away.

    Chewy is the best

    By on

I have two cats in stage 2 renal failure. While this is manageable, I find that both cats are quite finicky.one prefers dry food, the other prefers wet. She is further compromised by metastatic CA to the liver. Chewy has been exceptional in understanding the fickleness of these 2 cats. I thank Chewy every day for their kindness and understanding.

    My cat loves this stuff

    By on

It was time to put my 14 yr old cat on a diet that would hopefully ward off kidney disease and my vet suggested this produce. To my surprise my cat loves this food. The unexpected bonus is that he had always thrown up parts of his food, at least once a day, but since he began the new canned food he has not thrown up once and no more hairballs. It cost more than other brands but he loves it so much that I don't care.

    Picky cat likes it

    By on

I had tried to get my cat to switch from her normal food to so many different types of mature cat food the vet had recommended, and she would not eat any of them. Then another vet turned me onto this food, and I mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with her other food and she eats it right down. I hope to be serving her only this food soon but for such a picky little eater, it is great that I am able to get her to at least take 1/2 and 1/2 of the other food. It is high in moisture content, you can see how the moisture in this food would be good for a cat with kidney disease, and my cat actually started to drink water now and she is looking healthier now on this food.

    No thank you

My cat would walk around the room to stay away from this plate of food. I bought all of prescription renal foods and she didn’t jump at any of them. I found non-prescription RC Aging+ with a low phos level and she eats it.

Palatable to the cats who don’t need it

    By on

Once again I’ve encountered a kidney diet wet food product that my elderly cat with compromised kidney function ate with relish the first time. He is generally a ravenous eater, requesting food several times a day. After the first feeding, I had to mix the can with regular food to get him to eat even a few bites. (My 3 healthy cats like it ). If I microwave a refrigerated leftover for 15 seconds on power level 2, bringing it to room temperature, he will eat a few bites. At this rate, though, it will take a very long time to use up the case of 5 oz cans, even feeding the other cats his leftovers.

My Vets and My Cats Approve

    By on

This food was recommended for my "geriatric" five cats. Fortunately, they like it. I want the best nutrition for them to make their quality of life the best possible. I use this in combination with the dry. Chewy called my Vet to get the prescription, making it truly easy for me.

    Definitely recommend

My vet diagnosed my kitty with kidney disease, and this was one of a few options that she recommended for his new diet. He absolutely loves it!

My 15 year old cat, Scarlett O'Hara, loves her new Purina prescription food!

    By on

My cat howled for me to hurry & feed her when I popped the top of a can for the 1st time. I ordered this brand because Scarlett O'Hara, while still eating her dry Hills Science Diet K/D prescription food [for impaired renal functioning] (which I leave out 24 hours a day), she had stopped eating her additional portions of prescription canned food in both Science Diet & Royal Canaan brand assorted varieties. She eats a small portion of this canned food every 4-5 hours, in addition to eating her dry food. This site will not allow a video of her "Anticipation"; & its too hard to edit a regular photo to the tiny 5MB, or "greater" vertical height allowed (I give up).

    My cat will eat it

    By on

Well I don’t think he is crazy about it, he typically will not eat any prescription food and he will eat this one so I’m very pleased with it.

    not reliable

    By on

My cat just isn’t taking to this brand. Sometimes if I add a topper but reliably not a good Choice. Expensive too, so wasting money.
