Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |

Feed a Specific Renal Diet
Your veterinarian can recommend the right diet to support your cat’s kidney function.
Encourage Drinking Water
Make sure that your cat always has fresh and clean water available. Offering them moist food can also support hydration.
Stimulate Your Cat’s Appetite
Offer your cat a nutritional option with different taste, smell, and texture to help ensure food intake, especially for pets with a poor appetite.
What sets Royal Canin apart is their close collaboration with veterinarians. Through these professional partnerships, they strive to learn everything they can about pet health, including how different formulas perform for different breeds, sizes, lifestyles and therapeutic conditions. Ongoing research and development allows Royal Canin to keep providing the precise nutrition dogs need for a range of medical conditions.
My old CKD cat loves this food. My vet previously told me that I should feed her anything I could get her to eat. That resulted in multiple different flavors and brands of "kitty junk food." I ran out of anything she would eat a few weeks ago, and looked in my cabinet to discover I still had a couple of cans of Royal Canin Renal Support food from a CKD cat of mine that passed away a year ago. I opened it and she practically crawled up my arm. As a result I ordered a case of this and she has been gobbling it down. She has gained a bit of weight and ran on her cat wheel the last few nights. It is clear she feels MUCH better on this food. I didn't give it five stars because it is awfully expensive. My Princess is worth it though.
This food wss only second choice since our first choice E was not available. We will not be in any more need for the food since Jingles passed away two weeks ago. Your service was always very good and we will continue to be costomers shall we get another pet.
The veterinarian recommmended this food after my 10 year old cat was diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. Having a cat that is fussy about her food, I was worried that this new diet would cause her stressand worse, that she may not eat it. But to my surprise, she loved it from the first day. She gets both the canned loaf style and the kibble every day and she is a happy cat!
This formula is never refused by my cat with ckd. Was looking for another Royal Canin Renal Care formula that my cat would not throw up. Royal Canin Renal Care formula D and formula e was about a 50% chance that my cat would vomit up the food and prices of this food that was not economical. She also tolerates the formula E loaf which is full on renal wet food. This one has moderately higher phosphorus but is still lower than most other foods and classed as an early care renal food. It was a winner for adding variety to her diet that she could keep down.
My 12 year old cat will not eat any other renal diet. Love the convenience of having it delivered to my doorstep. Plus, it’s cheaper than buying at the pet store or vet.
To be fair, I purchased every kidney cat food which required a veterinarian authorization and my cat turned her nose up at all of them...from Hills Science to ProPlan to Royal Canin...big waste of money! I just don't think it's possible to create a good tasting cat food for this problem...my poor baby is hungry - wish i knew what else to give her???
I was a bit worried when the vet wanted us to give to our 20 year old because she is so picky and the food is expensive and we could ever get her to vet recommended food. But to our surprise, she gobbled it right up. She eats a can a day if not more along with her treats. Pleasantly sutprised.
My 17 year old cat is in early stages of kidney disease so needs to be on this food. He really loves this food! I am happy he likes it. However, the food smells awful and don’t like the 3oz cans. They are too small. To top it off, this food is astronomical in price! Chewy has the lowest price around and it’s still high.
Great food! My 19 year old had lab work that was headed towards kidney issues. After switching to this food - her labs immediately came back to normal! She loved the food.
I've had cats years ago that needed renal support food, and they never liked it, but our cat absolutely LOVES this food!
