What's the difference between early care and advanced care?
Answer by ChewyMay 08, 2018

what does NF MEAN? STAND FOR? KIDNEY FUNCTION CAT FOOD Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function
Answer by ChewyApr 17, 2018
The NF stands for Renal Function.

0.18% is the minimum phosphorus! What is the MAX phosphorus of this food? And what is " artificial and natural flavors" in the ingredients list mean? Is that sugar? Don't mean to be a pest! Thank you for your time & consideration!
Answer by ChewyOct 04, 2018
Purina does not test for max phosphorous levels, but states that the total phosphorus in the NF Kidney Function Advanced Care canned formula, which is more accurate than minimums or maximums, is .39% on a dry matter basis. A flavor is any ingredient whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional. A natural flavor is one that's derived from a plant or animal while an artificial flavor is generated from scratch.

The ingredients include "meat" By-Products...what exactly is this "meat" ? Does the "Poultry" include Turkey ? (I have a cat that does not tolerate turkey, and these ambiguous descriptions are difficult for those of us trying to determine what is inside the can...)
Answer by ChewyNov 15, 2017
The poultry is turkey and the meat is beef.

They just won't eat it

We adopt seniors and many adopted come with issues with kidneys. I will normally not give low star reviews based on a finicky cat or two in the household, and especially with kidney challenged cats. Usually there are other cats in the household that are glad to finish the food off. But none of the five seniors in the household will touch the stuff and I'm stuck with a rather expensive case of food. Since it's prescription food, and we have a vet that is awesome at treatment of our seniors, I'll just donate the cans there as they will give them to low income owners in need. Not all bad news. Royal Canin prescription wet food has been a big hit here, so I did find a brand that works.

The Search for Palatable Kidney Food

It is very difficult to find specialty food to treat medical conditions. My elderly cat, Sam, has been on a kidney diet for three months. Science Diet didn’t work because he didn’t like the taste. Now I am feeding him Purina F Kidney Function Advanced Care and I’m having the same problem around taste. My next effort will be to find Royal Canin Kidney Food which is suppose to be more tasty. The other difficulty is that when only the large cans are available - it is very wasteful and expensive.

Too much waste

I am throwing away a half of a can daily because my cat only eats (at the most) a fourth of it during the course of a whole day. I also feed her the dry version (which she prefers) and the only reason that I keep purchasing the cans is because she throws up when I feed her only dry food. I wish that this food was also available in 2oz cans because it is too expensive to consistently throw out half of it. Also, saving it in the fridge is not a good idea because of how long it needs to sit to bring to room temperature. Purina, if you’re reading this, please consider smaller cans.

both of my cats love this food!

I have two older cats and one was recently diagnosed with kidney issues, so the Vet gave me a prescription for this food and told me that it would ok for both of my cats to eat. I ordered the canned food, and they love it!!!

High hopes... dashed

I had high hopes for this brand. My cat with kidney disease ate some on the first day but has turned his nose up every time since. Really struggling to find a kidney function formula that our cat finds edible.

Super easy return

My cat refused to eat this food, but I have no reason to think a less picky cat would not like it. Seems like a perfectly decent pate. I give Chewy high marks for a quick and easy refund process, and am donating the unused cans.

My cat isn't a fan

He loved it at first but refused to eat it after a week. The only way I can get him to eat it is to mix it with a little of his regular food but at least he gets some which is better than nothing.

PURINA PRO PLAN DIET FOOD

I bought 24 cans of this because my vet said she needed uniary diet food. She will absolutely NOT eat it. Nor will my other two who don't need it. I have 20 cans that I do not know what to do with. I would like to trade it for Hill diet.
