About Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Health For Cats

Acute or chronic? If your Veterinarian thinks your pet has a gastrointestinal issue, they may classify it as acute or chronic. Acute conditions appear suddenly and deteriorate rapidly. Chronic conditions develop over time and may worsen gradually.

Worried About Your Cat’s Digestion?

Your cat’s gastrointestinal (GI) system helps support the rest of the body by properly digesting food and making sure to extract the nutrients needed for overall health. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best gastrointestinal health solutions and management options for your pet.

Know Your Cat’s GI System

  1. Mouth: where ingestion of hair and formation of hairballs can occur, due to frequent grooming.
  2. Stomach: the first part of the GI tract, where inflamation may lead to vomitting.
  3. Small Intestine and Pancreas: where the small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients within the diet and the pancreas aids in digestion.
  4. Large Colon (Tranverse): which is responsible for forming stool.
  5. Large Colon (Descending): which is responsible for forming stool; any alteration to this process may lead to constipation or diarrhea.
  6. Rectum: where stool leaves the body

Questions & Answers

Is this food okay for other cats to eat? I have another cat and want to make sure it’s okay for her to eat this food.

Answer by ChewyAug 08, 2018
Since this is a prescription food formulated to meet specific diet restrictions from known health issues, this food should not be fed to any other animal than the one prescribed due to the restriction of specific nutrients. Prescription diets can be detrimental to an otherwise healthy pet if that pet doesn't have the ailment for which the food is designed.

Is this for urinary also?

Answer by ChewyJun 20, 2019
This food is formulated to help cats manage common gastrointestinal sensitivities.

Good for pancreatitis?

Answer by ChewyJan 24, 2018
The food is formulated to support a cat's digestive health concerns or food sensitivities. We advise consulting with the veterinarian to determine the best option for your cat.

I’d say after 2 days of feeding, she was immediately using the bathroom normally. My 6 year old cat, who i adopted from a shelter last year, only will eat dry food. I’ve tried every single type of wet food, and broth. She refuses to eat it and will only eat dry. She’s had severe constipation. Going maybe 2x a week, and having to drag her butt across my floor in order to get out the tiny little rock hard nuggets. She was always in pain and uncomfortable due to the constipation. This food has been a god send. I 100% recommend it to anyone’s cat who has chronic constipation. She goes everyday now, long solid slippery logs lol

My cat (son) had to have his stool manually evacuated under anesthesia 2x in one week, as well as constipation flares often requiring several enemas. A dr I work with told me we must change his food (which was another prescription high quality food) this has transformed his stool from dry powdery rocks every 3 days to a nice soft yet formed stool that is more regular. Even trying adding Metamucil fiber to his old food for a month didn’t do the trick. This has saved his life.

Due to chronic constipation that may be genetic, Olivia was prescribed RC fiber response. She only liked Dr. Elsey's clean protein dry food, so I was worried she wouldn't eat this. She actually prefers it now and even though I still have to add fiber to her wet food, it's only occasionally. Thankful the her vet as well as the emergency vet recommended it!

Our cat who was injured as a small kitten by falling from garage rafters, had tail and pelvis nerve damage. This resulted in partial incontinence of both urine and feces. This food has helped a lot in reducing the number, smell, messiness of stool bits deposited in places other than the litter box.

Tyson He had an enlarged colon and couldn't pass stool that was trapped above his pelvic bone. He was a sick baby and in a lot of pain. His regular vet sent him home I supposed to die as she did not offer me any advice. Thank God I found Dr Hawkins who done what it took to save his life. When I'm making this post Tyson felt well enough to play for the first time this morning. December the 1st 2025. It's been about 15 days since his surgery. He will be eating this food for the rest of his life. Thank you so much Chewy for shipping the food ready fast ..and for caring about my baby. It means more than you can know.

My poor guy has had constipation for years. He’s also been on miralax for years with only a mediocre response. But, after visiting a new vet that recommended Fiber Response, I am so happy to say he’s off meds and having regular (painless!) bowel movements! Definitely worth asking your vet about!
