About Royal Canin Urinary Health for Dogs

Worried About Your Dog’s Urinary Health?

Your veterinarian is the expert on your dog’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best urinary health solutions for your pet. Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop dog formulas that support urinary tract and bladder health.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Urinary dog food formula for your best friend. These special formulations can:

Dilute Urine

This helps your dog urinate more often, which can help minimize time for stones to form.

Lower RSS

RSS methodology predicts urine crystallization and is used to develop diets that reduce the risk of stone formation.

Maintain Balance

A precise mineral balance can also help prevent stones from forming.

Set Up Autoship for Consistent Delivery

Last-minute dietary changes can sometimes upset your pet’s stomach. Set your Royal Canin pet food order to Autoship to keep feeding on track and avoid unwanted disruptions.

About Royal Canin

What sets Royal Canin apart is their close collaboration with veterinarians. Through these professional partnerships, they strive to learn everything they can about pet health, including how different formulas perform for different breeds, sizes, lifestyles and therapeutic conditions. Ongoing research and development allows Royal Canin to keep providing the precise nutrition dogs need for a range of medical conditions.

This Food is a complete and balanced Veterinary Diet for adult dogs formulated to aid in the nutritional management of calcium oxalate and struvite urolithiasis. Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals.

Only one complaint

My dog enjoyed this food, and it did its job of dissolving struvite crystals. However, I didn’t feel comfortable feeding this food long term as it is preserved with citric acid. When used as a preservative in dry food, citric acid increases the risk for GDV/bloat (Purdue University study). My dog is a Standard Poodle, so he’s already an at risk breed. We fed this food when we had to, but took him off of it after a month. He’s also battled frequent UTIs in addition to 2 instances of struvite crystals, so we are back on Royal Canin SO to see if it helps. The only difference is this time I’m feeding him the canned formula. Both the dry and canned formulas appear to work equally well, but the canned formulas also have the added bonus of providing him with more liquid in his diet which I’m sure helps a little more.

Vet recommended

Our vet recommended this for our puppy for a small health issue. problem is that this dog food actually requires a vets prescription to get and as you can imagine a price to match that. None of our local stores carry this, but this is where Chewy shines. They talk to the vet so we don't have to and auto delivery helps us manage when a new bag arrives, plus we get a small discount with auto delivery. We have two dogs and they are transitioning from their old dog food to this and so far seem to like it.

Go to Brand / Food

Tried this brand out for both of dogs to help aide / prevent medical issues and I’m never going back to any other brand - regardless of the dog! Unless I have to of course. Royal Canin not only helps my pug with his urinary issues but it also stopped his shedding and weight gain! We add a little broth to it to soften the food and he scours it up every time. Love everything about it - highly recommended to everyone!

He likes it

My dog had to start eating this urinary food. He gets the wet and the dry food. He’s a very finicky eater so I thought I’d never get him to eat either one. To my surprise he loves the wet and the dry food. It’s expensive but he has to have it so I’m glad he likes it.

Very Surprised

My 120+ lb picky eater female Bullmastiff loves the stuff. And it seems to be working preventing her from getting UTIs. It’s expensive food but I guess it’s a wash vs vet bills every 2-3 months for UTI treatment.

Never an issue

I've been using Chewy for years. I've worked at rescues and seen the hugely generous donations from them. I've received birthday cards : ) But mainly, I've never received a less than fresh, solid or fast delivery. I always encourage other pet people in my life to use Chewy. It's just smart. And easy.

Gemma loves it!

Gemma had surgery to remove bladder stones and our vet recommended Royal Canin Urinary SO. She readily eats it and really likes it. Yay! Only issue we have with it is the price. Expensive, but necessary to keep Gemma healthy.

Find any other food

This food has nearly killed my dog. Caused severe GERD and he vomits, coughs, hacks, has diarrhea and nausea. The only change has been the food. i do not recommend. the smell is putrid too.
